I think you know what would be a special lunch for your child but make sure they can open all the containers etc and maybe a note from you with some stickers. Yes a napkin. Big NO to any knife even plastic. No to real forks and spoons that you really want to keep..but plastic or some stray spares that can be reused are fine. I reuse plastic but don;t have to worry that my real stuff could easily be lost or tossed.

sandwich, cut up fruit she likes, juice box or water or milk, whatever you want her to drink and something a little treat-like. I send packaged chips because they are a big treat in our house; could be brownies, cookie, whatever.

cheese sticks, some pretzels, yogurt "tubes" -- we like to mix it up sometimes as my kids get sick of sandwiches. sometimes we'll send it whole-wheat pretzels and baby carrots with a little container of hummus or some kind of dip.

I do turkey wraps a lot, with pesto sauce instead of mayo. Cheese sticks or cheese cubes on little Batman toothpicks. A juice box or a Foogo thermos with milk. Whole wheat pretzels. Dried fruit strips. A cookie on Fridays.

I use plastic utensils as well, but heavy duty ones. It's hard enough for me to cut or eat with flimsy utensils. Definitely napkins. I send two. I use Batman napkins or whatever's leftover and fun from birthday parties, etc. Not every day, but fairly often.

I also agree to make sure your child can open all containers. My son has trouble with cheese stick wraps, so I "start" them for him before putting them in the lunch box. I also freeze the juice box as an additional ice pack if needed.

For utensils I went to Target and bought a cheap eight back of spoons and an eight pack of forks.

I'm really into Weelicious's Facebook Page - she has an album called Lunch2 that has tons and tons of pictures with the ingredients listed. It's such a great resource!
