Do I need a travel potty?

Getting ready to start potty training and list of supplies I read included a travel potty and folding toilet seat. I found the Pottette Plus, which is both of these things. Experienced moms - will I need these items?

I recently potty trained my son and I'm a big fan of the Pottette Plus. My son is "afraid" to sit on the big potty so that would make things tough when we are away from home. Not to mention, public restrooms are so gross and I don't want him touching the potty etc... I will often set up the pottette in the trunk of our SUV when we arrive at a destination etc... I don't know how long we will use it, but just in the last month I have probably used it 30 times. So i think it's worth it! It's also really small and will fit in your purse.

I have the potette and a folding seat. The folding seat is slimmer but will not work on its own like the potette. The potette is great for car trips and trips to the park or walks in the stroller. I kept the folding seat in my diaper bag for outings to restaurants, museums, etc.

We never had need for either one - then again the only one who is potty trained is a boy so he stands and pees most of the time. When potty training and out in public we used public restrooms and I just sat him on the seat and helped support him - he was fine.

The less gear the better, imo.

Potty trained boys and girls. Never had special travel gear. For my youngest, I did put a potty in the ack of the car and we often would go to the car to pee rather than a public toilet if it wasn't inconvenient. agree that less gear is better.

I think it depends a bit on your kid. Our little guy potty trained at age 2, but really wasn't able to stand and go on normal, adult size toilets/urinals (even at home) until he turned 3. The potette plus was a real life saver for us!

I never needed a travel potty with my daughter, but then again we never went on long trips while training her.

Another vote for Potette. My 2 year old used it today in the back of my SUV. My 4 year old still uses it to poop if there are no other bathrooms available.

I would usually vote for less gear is better, but my DD was afraid of both the sight of public toilets and the flushing sounds. We got a folding travel seat, didn't work, but carried the regular seat (baby bjorn) with us. Worked out fine and she passed that phase relatively quickly - 6-8 weeks.

We bought one three potty trained kids ago...haven't used it once. I wish we hadn't bought it.

A friend "handed down" her potette- probably wouldn't have bought one on my own. However, on long car trips it's saved a lot of travel time and probably the car seat.... we could pull over at the next safe spot and have her go rather than waiting for a rest stop of exit. We do a lot of traveling along 81 north where exits can be far apart.
