Infant daycare 20905 - recommendations?

Anonymous
Hi, I'm about 10 weeks pregnant and starting to think about infant daycare options for our newborn next Spring/Summer. Does anyone have any recommendations near the 20905 zipcode (we live near Bonifant and New Hampshire). It doesn't seem like there are many day care center options in the area. I started searching for in home options, but it seems overwhelming to start randomly calling without recommendations! Thanks in advance!

I live in that zip code and use a home daycare in Burtonsville. I'm not sure if she will have infant openings at the time you need, but I can e-mail you her contact information if you're interested. It is a little overwhelming doing the home daycare search (I did it twice when I was new to the area), but I looked at four different ones and felt comfortable with 3 of them if that makes you feel any better. Good luck!!

There's the Learning Tree in Burtonsville on Old Columbia, but it may be out of your way. We looked and thought it was fine. I chose another option b/c I only work PT, and was looking for a more suitable schedule.

Have you looked into a nanny share? I've seen a few on my listserv (20904, however) with infants. That may be another option. Do you have a 'hood listserv?

Thanks for the replies. I'd definitely take the contact info for the home daycare in Burtonsville that you mentioned. You can email me at lsr246@hotmail.com. I'll have to look into the Learning Tree as well, its not too far out of the way. Thanks again for the recommendations!

We use an in-home daycare in 20905 and have been happy with them for our two girls. Our oldest is about to start at the Learning Tree a few days a week so that she gets more time with kids her own age. The Learning Tree says they typically only have openings in June and September, so you should keep that in mind, and I think they only have space for six infants. I'm not sure what their waiting list is like for infants.

You live near me. I last looked for care three years ago. What I found was this. For infant care, there are a handful of licensed in home daycares. There are two centers close by ( sort of). One has already been mentioned. Ther is also one called ABC Learning Center. I believe it's on Randolph east of New Hampshire. None of the centers or in homes kept a waiting list. They tell you to call back when you need them and they'll let you know if they have space. But, you can tour, interview parents ,etc while you are pregnant so you can rule out the ones you don't like.

Once your child hits 18 months, there is DeeDee's Place on New Hampshire below Randolph. I didnt use them, but a friend did and was happy. Once your child turns two, Colesville Childcare Center on New Hampshire, right below the new environmentally friendly houses and the ICC entrance. That's what I've been using fornyears. They go from age 2 through 13, with both preschool and pre-k. They do before care and drop off and aftercare pick up at Jackson Road and Stonegate ES and they do aftercare pick up at White Oak MS. Another aftercare option for Stonegate is Chung's Tae Kwon Do. My kids also say that Sonshine (the Immanual Church way north on New Hampshire near Ednor Road) does aftercare pick up from Stonegate.

Most people in Stonegate and Naples Manor neighborhoods use a nanny or are stay ay home parents, so there aren't lots of options. Good luck and congratulations.

My son is at Skye's Daycare off Briggs Cheney. She doesn't have infant slots now. but by the time you will need one she might. I absolutely love her (and her mother who helps her). They are from Columbia and therefore it is a bilingual environment. We are spanish speaking so this was important to us, but many of the English speaking children have learned some Spanish. It's on Briggs Cheney between Good Hope and 29.

I too live in Stonegate and am currently looking for a spot for my soon to be 2 month old. We want to send her to Skye's (where my 2 yr old son goes) but she doesn't have space (yikes!). So now I am left to either find an infant placement or move my son to a nursery school setting and have my newborn daughter take his spot at the home daycare. All the posts have been very helpful, but I would love to hear more about Dee Dee's Place or the Colesville Center, if any other parents would like to share their experiences. Nervous about moving son...but it might be better since he will soon be ready for a PS environment.

I'm close to Layhill and Bel Pre and my daughter goes to a wonderful in-home provider. I'm going to email you with more information.

Not sure if this would be convientent for you, but I had my daughter in Bright Eyes at Veirs Mill. I loved it, but it made my commute a nightmare so I took her out. They also have a few other locations.

Zarina on Briarcliff in Burtonsville--not sure of the name of the place or other details. My husband checked her out and really liked her/the place, but we decided to got with someone else. As of a few weeks ago, she had openings for May.
