I really love our Cutco knives. I am not sure what type of knives you need but they sell a lot of different sets.

I like cutco too. Though we got a set of Wusthof knives as a wedding present and I LOVE them!!!

We've had a Cutco knife for a long time, and it's worked well but nothing like our ultrasharp, cut anything Wusthof knives--we have them in every size, and they've made cutting and cooking a joy.

dont get a set. figure out what knives you need and get those. I love my wushthof classics and have posted on this forum many times (try a search). If you want great knives, they need to be forged steel - one piece of steel with a handle that goes over it, not just a steel blade glued to a handle. After that it's really about fit - Henckels also makes great ones. I would start with an 8" chef's, a paring knive, a boning knife, and a bread knife - I could probably live with just those. If you get a set you'll get all kinds of silly knives you dont need.

I use a Wusthof 6" chef's knife (small so better for smaller hands), a Wusthof paring knife, a Henckels serrated knife for tomatoes, and a long serrated knife from Cutco for bread.

That's really all I ever use, and I do a lot of cooking.

I got myself a nice Wusthof Knife Set last year. Absolute wonderfull knives, they look great and keep a nice edge. Just every now and then use a sharpening rod and they feel brand new.

Must have been this Wusthof Ikon Set I think! Quite expensive If you don't mind the looks you also got some better priced sets likes this one: http://edenwebshops.co.uk/en/pt/-wusthof-classic-natural-knife-block-5-pcs.htm

I would recommend geetting a custom set made. Murray Carter in Canada (http://www.cartercutlery.com/) makes a really knife. A little pricey, probably even more so now, but I think they are worth it. I have several of his work and have not been disappointed yet. Doesn't require sharpening very often. He is a ABS mastersmith and have been forging steel for years for years.

We have 3 Global knives and about 5 different Cutco knives. They all work pretty well. People like to make fun of Cutco, but these are 20 years old and still work great.

This. And agree - don't buy a set, just get what you need. And be sure to try them out. It has to feel right in your hands.

Ditto. I have two paring knives, a small chefs knife, and a vegetable knife. I am thinking of getting a santoku. Don't forget to get a knife sharpener for Japanese knives.

My bread knife is a henckles made in Spain, which I like.

This. Other than steak knives, I use a global chef's knife and a crappy Wusthof bread knife. I have other knives from the Wusthof set, but I barely use them.
