is smosh ok for an 8 yo kid?

Ok, this is my question. Smosh is a very popular youtube channel (a web-based comedy duo) and my son seems to have picked up all sort of borderline language from watching it... like crab (when he means cra*), f you, and so on... I wonder if other parents have come across similar experiences. I was wondering whether it is already time to set up a gigantic web of parental controls when our kid is on the internet....

I've never heard of smosh, but I think that if your kid is using language you don't approve of, that he is learning there, it's reasonable to put that off-limits, and just continue to monitor what he is doing online.

Heck my 3 yo will say crap. Definitely better than the alternative. He doesnt say any bad words. He knows better

I would probably say yes, but if you feel the need to censor "crap," it's probably not appropriate for your son. Or you can use this opportunity to give him access on the condition that he follow your rules on language use, and show that he's mature enough to watch the videos without repeating the questionable words that you don't approve of.

Different families have different rules about language, and while I may be more lenient with my kids, that doesn't mean your rules are wrong or inappropriate. You just have to make sure your son knows your expectations.

An intended "crap" and f-u? Uh, no that is not appropriate for an 8 year old.

OK, if you are going to police for crap (and you can't even write that word?) you are going to have a tough time.

If you don't want him to say crap thats one thing, but I don't see how you can stop him from hearing it. He probably hears it everyday at school.

In my mom's home, the "F word" was fart. She had all girls and grew up with a bunch of sisters. Life with boys is so different....
