I remember reading this story back when Romeny was in Massachusetts and reread it today on a blog. This story, if true, makes me sick. Mormonism already is so antiquated when it comes to women's rights and can only imagine how Romney really views women and their role in our society. The most chilling aspect of this account is how Romney got permission from the leaders of the faith to take a pro-choice stance. Says a lot about the separation between church and state.

Not a Romney fan in the least but OP this says NOTHING about the separation of church and state. It says something about Romney, not very flattering, but lets keep it honest and rational.
You are entitled to your opinion about Mormonism as much as he is entitled to be a Mormon. What difference does it make? Can he lead the legislature by proposing credible means to rein in spending and 'enhance' revenues to deal with our fiscal problems? Can he lead the military and make decisions that help keep us safe? Can you lead the public and foster job creation? These are the questions that should be asked of him and any of the other candidates. Abortion is settled law - move on. Work on keeping tax dollars from funding abortions if you like. Don't worry about what Mormons or anyone else 'thinks' about it - the only thing anyone can DO about it involves purse strings. |
oops, "Can you lead the public" should be "Can HE lead the public"

Imagine if we had a mormon girl politician
or imagine the Mormon church with women bishops!!!! |
Imagine the Catholic church with a female Pope! |
I don't have a problem with his mormonism, but your admonition to not care about social issues like abortion is misplaced. The federal government just tried to restrict funding to Planned Parenthood, and they in fact did just cut off the ability of DC to use its own money to pay for abortion services. Presidents pick Supreme Court justices, and they can have a profound effect on how things shake out at the state level. There is restriction to the morning after pill, which he thinks should require a prescription. And on and on. http://www.ontheissues.org/governor/Mitt_Romney_Abortion.htm You can't wave away the negatives on a candidate so easily. |
