I tried to sign up for the lose it app, but it told me to lose 2 pounds a week I had to eat 978 calories. I have a lot to lose (40), and I exercise a lot, so that can't possibly be right. Is there a way to adjust for activity level? Is there a better app that takes activity into account? TIA

Lose it does account for your activity, but not in the baseline. You add in the actual exercise you performed in a day, and it will add an equivalent amount of calories to your daily budget. 2lbs/wk is too much not counting exercise calories burned. That's a caloric deficit of 1000 cal/day. You shouldn't fall below about 1200-1300 cal/day.

Yep, 2 pounds a week is too much. Try one pound and then add in your exercise each day. Or you can go to "goals" then "modify program" and you can leave it set at 2 pounds a week but add more calories for yourself if you'd rather do it that way.

I would stick to 1lb/week. The good thing is, that as your body adjusts you will almost certainly lose more than 1lb (following that calorie count) for the first week or two which should boost your resolve. However, over the long term you will start losing just 1lb per week.
Don't forget to log your exercise to either lose more or eat more and lose the same

Good luck! This app is great! It helped me lose 30 lbs (1 a week). Now I'm pregnant so I'm not using it, but I will trust it to lose baby weight afterwards too.
