I have posted about this place before-- The Cabins at Rose River Farm. We stayed there this summer and really enjoyed it. The cabins are brand new and they are round-- very cool-- check out the pictures on their website. It's 5 min from the park and only about 1:30 from Northern Virginia. Spectacular mountain views, lots of outdoor stuff to do plus wineries and other fun stuff. Great fire pit for marshmallow roasting at night. There website is http://roseriverfarm.com/calendar.html

If you're flexible, the Berkeley Springs area is also nice and has beautiful parks. We went through Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals. They have many cabins available. We stayed in Rocky Ridge I.

Did you stay in the Hill Top or Pond View cabin? Which would you recommend?

We stayed at Hilltop And really loved it but Pondview looked really nice too. I don't think you can go wrong with either cabin.

We love hiking White Oak Canyon-- our boys 8-10 really like it too. Great waterfalls and not to strenuous.

What about the cabins that are right in the park? Have you looked at those?

The cabins in the park are OK but have not been renovated in a pretty long time. Plus I like to be closer to restaurants, wineries etc.
