Looking for recommendations for a green cleaner (alternative to 409) for countertops and dining table top. Something I could buy at the Target or Giant would be preferable.
|
| Vinegar and water with a dash of dishwashing detergent. Pour in spray bottle and shake it up. |
| second the PP. If you were looking to buy something vs making it, I think Meyers might be eco-friendly? |
| I was also going to say vinegar. We use it to clean hardwood floors as well. You can also get a hand steamer and just use hot steam. |
Mrs. Meyers is also a great store bought alternative. I have pet birds and never have to worry about them when I clean since I switched two years ago. I also NEVER get headaches anymore and the house is left with a fresh and pleasant scent (which doesn't happen when I use baking soda and vinegar though I do use those for problem areas, mainly related to scrubbing something.) I started out with the lemon verbena scent but am switching to the geranium because I like it better. Long live Mrs. Meyers Clean Day products!!!

| OP here - I'm fine with making my own, but doesn't the solution with vinegar leave a vinegary smell? |
No, it dissipates almost immediately. Sometimes I add a few drops of lavender oil to the solution. Cleaning this way is so cheap and effective. |
If you don't like the smell of vinegar but want something else that cleans and disinfects counters and the like, I make my own spray cleaner that is: squirt of Seventh Gen free and clear dishwashing soap, fill up with water, add 20 drops of tea tree oil. Thyme oil is also a natural disinfectant if you don't like the tea tree smell (I love it so that's what I use). If you would prefer to buy something, we have used and liked Seventh Generation's multipurpose spray cleaner, and Method, both of which Target carries. May be cheaper to buy on Amazon using their Subscribe & Save program, so check that out. |
| I love Mrs. Meyer's lemon verbena. |

wHat about cleaning the floors (we hav ea bathroom with marble and tile)? will vinegar work there?
And does vinegar work as windex? |
| I love the method products. |
| Be careful where you use vinegar because it can destroy certain surfaces like marble. |
