East Silver Spring???

Can anyone tell me about the school? If you have or had children there, what was your experience? We are thinking of buying a house in the area and would like to get some information about the school.

You may be familiar with this - http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/02756.pdf

But if not, it offers a good snapshot of the schools.

FARMs - when reported at the elementary level - are often accurate. It becomes a stigma at the high school level. So numbers at the high school are usually inaccurate.

Check out the East Silver Spring PTA Yahoo Group. The principal is on the list. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ESSPTA/

I live in the district but my child isn't ready for school yet. We will go to ESS when ready to start kindergarten. My neighbors seem happy with it. The school just switched to K-5 (used to be K-2 and then kids went to Piney Branch ES) and underwent an extensive renovation. I haven't been inside but the playground is very nice.

OP here:

I know about the school at a glance but I wanted to hear what parents thoughts. That always gives me a much better indication of the school climate.

Not at ESS, but live nearby and was involved with a project with some active parents at the school. They really love it. It's Title 1 status gives it more resources than many other schools.

DD volunteered with East SS ES for a month last summer. That is one nice community. And I believe their school was recently renovated.

We recently looked at moving into the district but we heard some grumblings about the school from the neighbors. We decided against buying the place as we didn't want to take the risk with our kids.
