I think he's either foolish or lacking principles, likely a combination, but I don't know why we would care how "smart" he is in any broad sense. Does he govern well? The stupidity of Bush and Quayle wasn't interesting because it had any real meaning independent of their policies; it was just funny. |
The wonderful thing about having free press is that it can speak truth to power. |
Yeah...unless the power is Rupert Murdoch. |
It isn't a free press - Murdoch expended quite a bit of treasure to buy it.
The really stupid people here are the tea partiers and their wall street puppet masters that have led this country to the brink of disaster. Yet somehow they have convinced enough people that these problems - which are clearly created by congress' unwillingness to support revenue increases and appropriate stimulus - are all the fault of Obama. |
Yep, the WSJ is nothing if not speaking truth to power. I think what you want is, "Comfort the comfortable; afflict the afflicted." ![]() |
Another is that rich people with a political axe to grind can say whatever they want and millions of suckers will lap it up. |
Just so long as you leaven it with a healthy dollop of social resentment. "Hey, look! Someone who's not quite like you is getting something! Why them and not you?!? Let's take our country back by eliminating the estate tax." Heh. Rubes are funny. |
Nothing is free and nothing is objective. |
My liberal relatives - ALL OF THEM - believe everything they see and hear on the news and out of the mouths of celebrities. It is so predictable. I took the "rich people" comment as a dig at conservatives, and maybe it wasn't meant that way, but the same exact thing applies to rich liberals, if not more so because of the celebrity and/or fame factor. How many Hollywood conservatives are there? That are A list? 0. B list? 0 Unless you count Angie Harmon. C list? Maybe like 3. |
Bruce Willis would be at least B+ list. |
I'm not sure how that invalidates the point, which is that something is not true merely because Murdoch pays somebody to say it in an Opinion piece. |
Are corporation and rich individuals more likely to be left-wing or right-wing? Discuss.
How many media outlets are owned by Hollywood celebrities? |
Bill O'Reilly, Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh...They are celebrities...they are entertainers...they know as much or as little as any of celebrity, but have a louder voice then other celebrities. Its not like they are there for academic work. What do you want quotas? |
Kelsey Grammer (Fraizer) = B list Robert Duvall = A list Mel Gibson = A list Clint Eastwood = A+ list Jesus from Passion of the Christ James Caveziel? = C+ Tom Selleck = B? These Re off the top of my head, but there are a lot more than you think |
