Infertility Support and Discussion

I'm starting my 2nd cycle of timed intercourse (TI) with clomid and bravelle. Been trying to conceive for over a year now, one first trimester miscarriage, chemical pregnancy, and then nothing so went to an RE. 1st cycle didn't work. RE has also suggested an IUI, but right now TI with drugs is all our insurance will cover; open season can not come quick enough. Any success stories out there with TI? Wondering if we should just suck it up and pay for IUI.

The actual IUI is only about $300. The monitoring is what costs the boatload. Do they have you on those drugs with no monitoring now?? Watch out major multiples. If you're already being monitored, then, like I said, the IUI itself does not add much extra cost.
monitoring is covered with TI and drugs on our plan. But, as soon as you add an ART procedure (IUI), they won't cover anything and then its $1400 out of pocket.
Is this Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield? My clinic used to try telling me that, and then it turned out they WOULD cover everything except the IUI, so I could just pay for that part.
We were successful with TI and injectibles but ended up with a miscarriage. Good luck!
21:02 Yes, it is federal BCBS standard plan. Was this in 2011, when you just had to pay for the IUI part? It states now that they don't cover treatment associated with ART procedures, so I took that to mean drugs and monitoring.
This has been an ongoing issue. When I was with Shady Grove back in 2004, they said I had to self pay for the IUI and all associated fees. Then when I was with CFA in 2007-2010, they had the same interpretation, until I pushed it and they said, "Oh, they just changed their policy, so you can just pay for the IUI now." So I really think it depends on how hard you push it.
