IB at Richard Montgomery

If my child is in the RM district - what does he need to do to get into the IB program? Is it hard to get into or could he get letters of recommendation or something along those lines and enroll.

Thanks!

RM cluster students compete with the rest of the county for spots. There are some (??) slots that are reserved for the RM cluster so you have a slightly better shot if you live here but not much. It is very competitive. There is an application process to follow beyond letters of recommendation. Probably call the school or use the mCPS website.

It is extremely competitive. Roughly 900-1000 8th graders apply, and they take 100-115 or so. The application process involves recommendations from teachers in every academic subject, a test, and two essays. As 13:32 notes, the MCPS website has pretty extensive information about it.

There are another 25 (I think) spots for which RM 10th graders can apply. I think (but am not certain) that those 10th graders must have continued in MYP.
