Travel Discussion
DH and I were planning to take off in February and go to the South Pacific for a couple of weeks - have wanted to go there for awhile and experience the over-the-water bungalows, etc but couldn't get it planned due to pregnancies, etc. Due to multiple reasons, including the fact that are parents are long distance and are less than enthused at the prospect of staying with our kids for a few weeks while we are halfway across the world, we have decided to plan a shorter trip to the Caribbean but would like it to be as similar in nature as possible. Hopefully, the child care situation will go smoothly and our parents won't be so scared to do it for a couple of weeks in the future! Any recommendations? We have done St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, etc.....looking for something more off-path. Hope to do a little diving, but that will not be the sole focus of the trip. Have considered St. John but would love to get other recs. TIA!

| While I have not stayed at this place in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, I have always wanted to: http://www.luxurytravelmagazine.com/property/canouan-resort.php |
| Virgin Gorda. Lovely, remote, very friendly, and nice diving. |

Somewhere in the southern part of St. Lucia with a view of the Pitons will make you feel like you are worlds away. It's very lush with mangos dropping off the trees and lots of flowers. Anse Chasenet has the best snorkeling and has a dive center. Jade Mountain is the luxury part of the Anse Chastenet resort. If you are there for the Jazz Festival or want a large all inclusive, then Pigeon Point and that northern area is also fun.
We stayed at a b&b called La Haut that has by far the best view of Soufriere and the Pitons. If you rent a little 4X4 from there you can explore all the little resort bars, waterfall botanical gardens, and beaches on the island. There is a Hilton right in between the Pitons, and a couple of adorable small resorts on the slopes. Stonefield Estate, Mago Hotel and Ladera are small but very nice. Avoid Hummingbird, it has a nice bar and what looks like a great location but service is slow and the hotel is run down. If you like to scuba dive then maybe Bonaire, Little Cayman or Grand Turk? Off the path and great diving. We went to Saba, it's a Dutch island east of St. Bart, it makes a great combo with St. Bart or Anguilla, but the pinnacle top diving was too deep for our taste, starting at 90 feet most places. My friend went to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, did a lot of boating, said it did not suck. She liked the Hotel Frangipani in Bequia. |
10:32 poster here. Jalousie is the place between the Pitons. See http://www.jalousieplantation.com/ Also a great suggestion! I love La Haut too, but I am sensing that the OP wants a bit more upscale. Same with Stonefield and Mago - probably not as upscale as the others. If money is no issue, I would go, in order: - Jade Mountain - Ladera - Jalouise - Anse Chastenet - Ti Kaye Bon voyage! |
