So apparently the Koch brothers have been sending essentially worthless absentee ballots (with the wrong deadline printed on them) to Democrats in Wisconsin.
http://www.thenation.com/video/162548/how-koch-brothers-are-blocking-vote-wisconsin Is this electoral fraud? Can anything be done to them? ps. am I supposed to capitalize "Defenders of Liberty" ? ![]() |
When our social safety nets are dismantled as proposed by a TP poster in another thread, and the rich scramble to save everyone through private charities, as predicted by that same poster, I'm sure the Koch brothers will be at the front of the crowd. If only the government would stop crowding out private charities! |
Even the TP accepts that government is necessary to defend our freedoms. This seems like a reasonable job for the Dept of Homeland Security. |
So can anyone answer the question? Is this a crime? How can a private entity send out ballots, first of all? |
Here is a statement from the group:
Statement from AFP-Wisconsin State Director Matt Seaholm in regards to the Absentee Ballot Application Typo "Americans for Prosperity recently sent to our members letters for absentee ballot applications. The date on the ballot application was meant solely for the elections held on August 16th. Due to a mistake during printing, all applications were sent out with the August 11th date. “Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin did not intend to print the incorrect absentee deadline or confuse voters in any way. Our goal was to provide voters with the opportunity to vote by way of absentee and to increase voter turnout in these important recall elections. AFP-Wisconsin is directly addressing this mistake by sending out a call to each and every individual on the mailing list to clarify the date of the elections. “I encourage all Wisconsin citizens to make their voices heard and vote in the State Senate Recall elections. It is their government, and they have a stake in it.” Read more: http://www.americansforprosperity.org/080211-statement-afp-wisconsin-state-director-matt-seaholm-regards-absentee-ballot-application-typo#ixzz1UaGWAZ6d |
(1) If it was done intentionally, the group can be prosecuted.
but (2) Y'all need to get a grip about the Koch brothers. They have huge amounts of cash and give to so many organizations that at least one of those organizations must misbehave at some point. If it does, the Kochs need to withdraw funding. That is where their responsibility lies. (3) I got funding from the Kochs to do graduate work in philosophy. You really think they thought that kind of funding was going to get them higher profits? Do you really think people with as much money as the Kochs need to spend all their time and energy trying to get more money? Has it ever occurred to you that they believe in a form of individual liberty that you reject? Yes, you reject it. We get it. It doesn't make them corrupt. |
It seems like they spent their money well....are still on their payroll? |
They are rich, they are republicans and they are connected. They will get away with it. Like the guy who tried to tap the senators phone. Have not heard about jail time for him? |
Ha, no, they wasted it. I don't do philosophy these days. But you're right. I'm sure they figured that even if I left obscure Greek philosophy, I would someday go on a parenting chat board and try to convince people with no power that they should reconsider their views of the Koch brothers. Money well spent indeed. |
Let me guess, your graduate work in philosophy was on Ayn Rand? Or if it was real philosophy, John Rawls? |
Aristotle mostly. You think Rawls supports the classical liberal view of capitalism? Wow. |
The Koch bothers or should we say Clotho? It might be a long piece of yarn, but well played on their part. What will you do now that you part has been played? By the way, how much did this cost them? |
Your level of paranoia is deeper than I had imagined. |
Just giving you a hard time, who said ex philosophy students are not funny...Aristotle?
|
Ah, I wondered! I still think Aristotle can tell us a lot about how to live our lives, I just don't employ his work in my paid work. |
