i need sunglasses that actually block sun

can someone recommend a brand of glasses or perhaps a store in which i get something reasonably priced that also blocks the sun?

shop in a sports store instead of a department / fashion store. REI, Ski Chalet, West Marine will all have sunglasses that protect your eye. Most of their glasses will also be polarized, which helps to cut glare.

I had seen SunCloud at a good ski shop but didn't have time to try them on. So I ordered three or four different styles from Zappos (http://www.zappos.com/suncloud-polarized-optics-womens~2) and kept the ones that had the best combination of comfortable with a helmet (bike or ski) and flattering for my face. They were less expensive than the sunglasses I had bought at a department store and so much better and almost as cute.

Love my Maui Jims. I think they were around $150.
Campmor.com often has good deals on quality glasses, I can't remember the brand but DH has bought from them. definitely go for polarized.

Another vote for Maui Jims -- I love mine! Got them at Sunglass Hut, which at the time had a 90-day no-hassle return policy.

I like Oakley and have a few pairs. Their sporty ones look odd for everyday wear, I think, but they really, really block the sun. I think I got mine at Sunglass Hut.

Maui Jim's. And I say that as someomeone who has spent years looking for sunglasses and spending WAY too much money on different pairs trying to find better sunglasses (from expensive to inexpensive, I must have gone through 8 or 9 pair trying to get it right). All polarized. My biggest issue has been the glare (which polarized lenses are supposed to fix) these do it best. See what you think. I was a serious skeptic.

I've had a pair of RayBans for two years and I love love them. They are polarized. They were around $200, but well worth it. I've heard plenty of good things about Maui Jims, too, though.

My daughter loves her Ray-Ban sunglasses. I've had two pairs of Maui Jims and think they're wonderful--very clear lenses and great protection.
