About how much does it cost to move?

For the first time we are moving more than just across town so we’re going to need to hire someone to load up the stuff we have boxed up, take it 250 miles to the new town and unload.

Our house is about 1800 square feet filled with four people’s worth of stuff. TIA!

You could hire local people from the U-haul moving help site to load and unload. We've used this service before a couple of times and it's been fine. http://www.uhaul.com/MovingHelp/

Cost us $5000 to move from NYC to NoVa. Moved about 1200 sq ft of stuff, and they did it on an hourly basis. It took longer on the NYC end, as we were in an elevator building, so that drove the cost up $1000 over our estimate.

Cost my sister $8K to move a family of 4 from NY to FL. That included packing.

We did a local move from a house that size and it was $2200 (and they did not pack for us).

We just moved from NoVa to Charlottesville and it cost $7,000 and they packed also. Thank goodness for a relo package. Our house was 2,500 sq ft with 4 people.
