Good Indian restaurants in West Springfield, Burke, Lorton?

Anonymous
Our favorite restaurant, My Karma in Lorton, has closed. Any good ones in the West Springfield area?

We're looking too! We were so sad to stop in for the lunch buffet a month or so ago and found it was "closed for renovation." I wrote them asking when they would be open again. Last week I heard back; they said My Karma "didn't make it." We were surprised because we've been there a lot over the last year and it was never empty. It was truly the best Indian food we've had anywhere.

Oh no!! Didn't know that My karma had closed. That sucks, it was pretty good.

I'm in West Springfield and I don't know of any good ones there. There are a few strip-mall little dives that serve Indian snacks off of Backlick road over by I think Brookfield plaza, but they aren't full restaurants.

My old stand by has always been Dishes of India, but that is a bit farther away in Alexandria. I think there is ian Indian restaurant in Kingstowne by the movie theater.

1149 here: Yeah, the one in Kingstowne isn't very good (at least that's our opinion). Dishes of India is the one in Belle Haven, right?

There's a cheap place called Samrat in Landsdowne Center. No ambiance whatsoever (complete hole in the wall) but the food was decent.

Yes, Dishes of India is over in Belle Haven. Haven't been in a few years, but we have had some really good meals there. Vindaloo so hot your stomach will ache afterwords!

Haven't tried the one in Kingstowne yet, either.

OP here. We're in mourning! Apparently a "modern Mexican" place is there now, according to the guy who answered.

I think we've tried Samrat but had forgotten about it. Will give it another go...

Yes, in response to my email about when My Karma was reopening, they also told me that if I brought their email response in, I would get 29% (?!?) off.

I do love Mexican too, but not near as much as good Indian food - and My Karma was the best I had in many years. One of the few redeeming things about living this far out and away from a lot of other good places to eat.

The place in Kingstowne (Aditi) is beautiful inside - and they will bring you a goldfish in a bowl if you are a solo diner so you have some company - but at least for my favorite dishes, I wasn't impressed. We might try again though. The do make good cocktails, so that counts for something.
