Kensington-Parkwood ES; What is the participation rate for PTA?

Anonymous
My son is going to the KP from this fall. He joins the first grade.
I do not have any friends at the school because we have just moved here.
I have a baby, so I think I do not have much time to volunteer at the school.
Even though I cannot join a lot of event because of the family commitment,
is it better to join the PTA?

It does not hurt to join. The PTA will never be able to tell you "you are not even a member" if you have an issue with a PTA activity or its advocacy. And don't get intimidated of they try to make you feel guilty about not volunteeing.

KP family here. Welcome! Lots of moms like you with babies, so unable to volunteer, etc. Also a lot of moms who work full time, so can never volunteer. It is largely a welcoming parent community, so don't worry. You can meet moms if you come a little early for pick up, assuming you're picking up as opposed to your child taking the bus. There are also family events throughout the year where you can bring the baby.

As a note, most parents join the PTA and pay dues, but it doesn't mean you have to take on a big leadership or role. There are meetings that are normally held at night, but after the first one, honestly not a huge turn out.

Again, welcome! A great school community

I am the OP. Thank you for the kind advice.
I will join the PTA, though I cannot commit myself to volunteering.
I am glad to hear that there are a lot of moms like me.
I look forward to joining the community!
