Last yr for 1st our school used Harcourt, but friend's 1st grade used Everyday Math. Anyone know what curriculum/program most MCPS use for 2nd and 3rd grades? |
I would assume they would continue with what they had last year.. |
They will continue to use what they had last year to supplement the new Elementary Integrated Curriculum. |
We had Harcourt too, I believe for 2nd grade.
|
Our MCPS uses Harcourt for second and third grade. |
Student textbooks in ES are Harcourt. The teachers have some Everyday Math materials such as books, workbooks, etc that they can photocopy. The math lesson plans that the teachers are provided require the use of some of the Everyday Math materials. Some teachers choose to rarely use the student textbooks. You can get by with just using the county lesson plans if you want to. |
My kids get an Everyday math textbook ( to return) and workbook (to keep) every year (can't remember what year that started maybe 2?) They do not follow the book in order however. |
Wow.... these answers don't seem to be consistent and that's surprising. Are these all MCPS elementary schools? Can each school do their own thing? I am not enamored with the math program at my DC's school, but I was under the impression that every school in the county did the same thing. |
No...definitely not..on any subject..depends on the school...All 2nd graders might do butterflies but not in the same way.. |
I posted about Harcourt in 2nd grade. Yes, MCPS.
I do think the actual text can vary by school, but the curriculum for most part is Maryland State? (although some schools, like ours, have the new standards where each grade is working 'above' level--which sucks for some kids, but is a whole different story ![]() |
My son finished 2nd grade last year and is going to 3rd. I haven't seen any Math Textbook. This is Bells Mill ES. Which school have your kids attended? |
no textbook either at our bethesda elem school |
Several of these posters are incorrect. Harcourt and Everyday Math are commonly used in MCPS and it varies by school which program is used.
The Elementary Integrated Curriculum, now being referred to as Curriculum 2.0, has incorporated the Common Core State Standards adopted by MD and 47 other states last year. They don't have everyone working above grade level like the PP said--the on-grade level standards are more rigorous and will hopefully lessen the practice of accelerating entire classes worth of students to the next grade level just so it looks like lots of kids are working above grade level in math. Curriculum 2.0 is only for K-2 this coming school year, so your 3rd grader will have one or the other-Everyday Math or Harcourt. I'd call your school if you want to know which one they use. |
Our school does! |
MCPS curriculums in elementary schools allow the use of either Everyday Math or Harcourt. I believe it's up to the individual schools to select which program to purchase. The MCPS curriculum guides provide a pacing chart that aligns with both texts for each unit in every grade level. The schools I have taught at have always used Harcourt but each grade level was given an Everyday Math kit to use as a supplement. |
