Disposable plates on Thanksgiving

Anonymous
Goodwill---seriously. I always see a lot of China sets and silverware there. Much cheaper than IKEA.

Or just use the disposables last like you mentioned.

+1 the whole point of the day is the dinner. You should provide the best you can. If this was any other holiday, I'd say it's a little bit more acceptable, but not thanksgiving.

Fwiw - our thanksgiving guests always exceed 25 people. And everyone chips in on clean up.

Um, the whole point is togetherness and giving thanks, not whether the thing your food sits on gets thrown out afterward.

Um, try hosting thanksgiving this year and not serve food. Just tell your guests "it's about thanksgiving and togetherness" and see how well that goes over.

How about a little reading comprehension? I never said the food wasn't a part of it, just that the plate under it is of pretty low importance (assuming said plate is sturdy enough to hold your food without leaking).

Wow pp, you either don't know how to read or don't have any reading comprehension.

Not PP, but I have china and sterling silver flatware for 50 guests. We were raised this way, I stocked it up when I got married 11 years back, have been using it ever since. And yes, bring back civility to the world. THANK YOU, PP.

Sterling silver flatware for 50 guests, at $1,000 per place setting. Wow.

Not all place settings cost that much. Good lord.

Where can you buy sterling silver flatware for less?

Not where. When. I'm guessing PP was either gifted or inherited all that flatware.

We stopped using the silver the year my FIL threw two forks and a knife in the trash while clearing plates. Not fun digging through garbage cans on a full stomach.

My mom bought extras to fill out her set on eBay! Estate sales also would be a good place, maybe even Craigslist.

But a matched set of flatware for 50, on eBay or Craigslist?

I've bought a few sterling silver spoons at Goodwill and the like, for $1, but they don't match...

That is part of the fun of a large dinner. Mix and matching plates gives the host a chance to assign post dinner chores. Those with the god rimmed china plates clear the table; those with the plain white everyday dishes help set up dessert and ooze and tea; those with the glass plates for outside dining clear the dessert table, etc

why?

A. b/c you're Martha Stewart
B. b/c you have a live in maid
C. b/c you never host
D. b/c you have all the time in the world to plan for feasts

I won't be able to sleep tonight until you tell me that you successfully retrieved all the silver pieces.

Who the heck wants to rinse and wash 25 plates??

The dishwasher. Literally lives for this stuff.
