Not PP, but I almost thought you really were the cooked-lunches-only troll for a second ![]() |
No, not a good mother. The nanny does the cooking. A good mother hires the proper nanny. |
Wait - where is dad? How come he doesn't have to stand in front of the stove and cook? Just wondering exactly what the guidelines are. |
Don't be absurd, PP. Everybody knows that children are women's work! A man with a child is like a fish with a bicycle. ![]() |
Homemade PBJ? Holy crap. Where did you find the recipe?
Stop sending in crap. Problem solved. |
If you don't feed your child garbage then the "well-meaning" people won't have to step in and educate your kid. |
A homemade PBJ is the right of every child.
It is the lunch of champions. |
PBJ and yogurt is now "junk food" ... huh. I learned something new today. Thanks DCUM.
So what's the consensus on individual cups of applesauce (the kind with an ingredients list of apples, apple juice concentrate and ascorbic acid - no HFCS) or the packaged cups of fruit packed in fruit juice (also no HFCS)? Are those as trailer-trashy as PBJ? Am I totally fooling myself by sticking one of those in my kid's lunch box and mentally checking off "fruit"? FWIW, my older child doesn't like PB, but he takes a cream cheese and jam sandwich at least a few times a week. Paired with one of the previously-discussed fruit cups, crackers or possibly even a cookie (oh the horror!) and water. |
Uncooked = lazy? So I (as mommy, because everyone knows daddies don't pack lunches, because you pack lunches with your vagina, evidently) put raw carrots in my kid's lunch today. OH THE HUMANITY. |
I love cream cheese and jam sandwiches, but I didn't know that anybody else knew about them! |
http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/the_kids/2013/03/pure_organic_buddyfruit_the_case_against_blended_fruit_snacks.html I think applesauce is an option when your child does not like real fruit, but apparently mashed fruit snacks are not an equivalent to the real fruit. We give fruit pouches as a treat sometimes, but usually pack an apple, mandarin orange, or banana for lunch. |
Did you know that you can buy premade ones in the freezer section at Costco? I think they are made by Smuckers! |
You can buy hard-boiled eggs at the grocery store, too. |
Funny, back when I taught school and kids forgot lunch money, they would give them a pbj. Times have certainly changed. |
