Your link goes to an article about a drink served by a bar. Here is what Barry actually said:

“We’ve got to do something about these Asians coming in, opening up businesses, those dirty shops,” he said in the course of laying out his vision for the ward. “They ought to go. I’ll just say that right now, you know. But we need African American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”

You will note that the phrase "dirty Asian" doesn't appear. That doesn't mean that what does appear is acceptable -- it's not -- but accuracy is important. BTW, Barry, who was not one to apologize generally, apologized for that statement.

Change Asians to African-Americans and that imagine some white politician saying it. Organize the protests, cue Al Sharpton, fuel the media frenzy and beat the drums for resignation. One more thing is for certain: the speaker wouldn't be getting a "state funeral" in 2014.
