Proof of heaven

If god were all powerful, why would "suffering and dying for his friends" be necessary? It's a central tenant in Christianity - but why is such an event so central, if god were all powerful? Wouldn't he/she "save" and love others anyway? Why did they have to suffer to "save" human beings?

^^^ because of free will and sin, his friends could not join him in a sinless place of pure love and justice. Those who recognize their selfishness and dark side first then accept the gift of forgiveness are thankful and try to change their ways are hugged by the father like a lost child found .

I appreciate your efforts to share and explain your beliefs. I think what you and PP have hit on is the central reason that I and a lot of folks like me struggle with Christianity. Buddhism, for example, recognizes peoples' dark side (delusion), but doesn't require a sacrifice to overcome it, other than the sacrifice of (possibly many lifetimes of very) hard work to overcome it through mindfulness. As an atheist, this makes more sense to me than the animal sacrifice practices of the Hebrew bible or the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus in the new testament.

^^^ pure love can't compromise with evil. Wouldn't want an all powerful being that accepted evil. Christ builds the bridge.

I get the simplistic argument that being gay might make your genes less likely to be passed on --- that makes sense to me (even though gay people do have kids all the time, and probably did more so throughout human history). But this is not really about what you or I think make sense, or the stories we can invent to explain the facts. The fact is that many researchers have checked the DNA of people who identify as gay and those who identify as straight, and objectively they have found a very strong correlation between that identification and certain genes. They have also found a tendency for gay and straight identification to run in families. This is not a matter of opinion, it just is. Now, we can invent theories to try to explain this objective reality, but whatever else is true, this finding is inconsistent with the idea championed by homophobes that people "choose" to be gay.

To your point:

a new study, published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, found a correlation between gay men and their mothers and maternal aunts, who are prone to have significantly more children compared to the maternal relatives of straight men.

Researchers led by Andrea Camperio Ciani, from the University of Padova in Italy, say that the findings of the link between homosexuality and female fertility strongly support the "balancing selection hypothesis," which suggests that a gene which causes homosexuality also leads to high fecundity or reproduction among their female relatives.

The team noted that the "gay man gene" may not get passed down directly, but instead survive through the generations through future generations making their male inheritors gay.

I realize that since this is "science" it probably won't hold much water with our grammatically- and punctuationally-challenged PP, but thought others might find it interesting.

Thanks for posting -- that's really interesting.

Absolutely no idea what this means.

So you're acknowledging that god isn't all-powerful, yes? If god is all powerful, then they created and are capable of evil. If they can't stop evil, then they're not all powerful.

Of course God can eliminate evil. He wants us to choose love over evil. He wants us to acknowledge our selfishness . He will not allow sin into heaven. If you sincerely seek truth, I believe the story of Christ will melt your heart. That's where I put my eternal hope.

It's called free will, and it's a gift from God....you get to choose.

You want the choice to choose, then some say they want God to take it away and everything awful that goes with it. You can't have free will/choice both ways.
