Uh oh someone is pissed at the boomer bitch who looked better than she did at Pilates |
Amen. Hate that generation. |
We sure do. As did the Greatest Generation. I guess the baby boomers raised the millenials so we shouldn't be surprised at their self-centeredness. |
Tell that to your older siblings. |
hard to reply to a 2 year old thread, but here goes...
Boomer here: My parents, middle class, had a much higher standard of living than we do (1950s and 60s) Dad worked 9-5 with full benefits, retired with a large pension and put 4 kids thru college. House paid off at age 42. Mom never worked. Retired. That was the golden age of the middle class. Even people who are in their mid 60s now benefited from that. Now the upper and lower class have benefited, while the middle class life styles goes steadily down. The boomers did not cause it, but the whole country stood by and let the life style drift away. One of the great things we did -- and you contributed -- is stand by and let minorities take the good jobs -- both the easy, the state and the high paying. So the next time you step aside for a minority or recently arrived emigrant, its only your life style you are giving up. |
They didn't break anything. Their only sin is that there are a lot of them. So which generation is responsible for that? Oh yeah, the Greatest Generation. |
Yes, and bring back white and colored drinking fountains. Idiot. ![]() |
yep! preach!! |
Now that's just silly. Honestly. |
Silly and ugly... but she's probably senile. |
Gen-Xer here. Look, there's plenty of blame to go around for our current economic and political problems - it doesn't all fall at the feet of the Boomers.
HOWEVER, I do wish Boomers would recognize a few things about themselves that annoy the living fuck out of the rest of us: - Nobody cares where you were when JFK was shot; - You did not invent civil rights or social justice; - The Beatles were great. Were. Past tense; - Hippies suck. - Yuppies are even worse than hippies; - Yes, you are self-absorbed. |
And you are not self-absorbed? |
I am seriously tired of hearing how great Boomer music is. I've heard it so much I seriously do not care if I hear anything recorded before 1977 ever again. |
I'm a typical Gen Xer (born in 73) and I found this article interesting. In some ways, we do need to stand up and take charge (just grab the reins from those stale, old Boomers!). However, as the most aborted, neglected, and lonely generation, I think we are actually reveling in standing back and remaining comfortable. We know that happiness is home made and you're not necessarily going to find it by trying to take charge and *change* everything. Perhaps our midlife crisis happened when we were trying to raise ourselves?
Also, I think there is a split among Gen Xers. The earlier waves (63-70) are the "Brat Pack"ers who were able to strike out and make rain throughout the 80's (which was one way to say FU to the previous generations). They may have lost their shirts in the dot.com bust but they had solid resumes by then to get back on the train. On the other hand, the mid to later waves (71-78ish) were the Cobain-loving, flannel-wearing, "Slackers" who have been completely raked over the coals both professionally and financially by the Boomers in charge. http://www.salon.com/2013/08/11/generation_x_gets_really_old_how_do_slackers_have_a_midlife_crisis/ |
"Classic Rock" - AKA "Top 40 for white boomers", AKA Classic Schlock. I remember a few years ago when WARW tried to update its format from Classic Rock to a more eclectic mixure - it was awesome! You could hear Hendrix, followed by Devo, followed by the Cars, followed by the Beatles. It didn't work - they couldn't maintain their ratings and reverted to the endless loop of Boomer hits. The comments on their website when they did so were very telling - post after post after "Get Off My Lawn!" post expressing relief that WARW had finally stopped playing anything fresh or new. Jesus, what a bunch of assholes. |
