Scathing Summary of Northeastern Admissions

There are some myths about coop in Northeastern.
Coop is not required. What is required is one experiential education which includes coop and also, study abroad, Summer cultural immersion program, research, etc.

Coop is an added program/service/support by the school. It's an enhanced version of internship with more flexibility and better support from the school. So instead of Summer only, you can do the internship in the Spring or Fall. Course offerings and the whole academic structure is designed to support that with plenty of Summer courses.

NU has 19 NCAA DI sports teams, and ice hockey is big.
Also aren't there seasons for each sport?

FYI it is possible to do this at any school

Northeastern University executed one of the most dramatic turnarounds in higher education. Its recipe for success? A single-minded focus on just one list.

https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2014/08/26/how-northeastern-gamed-the-college-rankings/

This more than a decade old article basically says NU followed rules and transparent about it.
It actually improved significantly in the areas considered important while other schools have secretly cheated.

Some of the high profile examples beside of the ones listed in the article,
- UCBerkeley: https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/uc-berkeley-booted-from-u-s-news-best-college-list-misreporting/

- Emory: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/emory-university-false-academic-data-sent-ranking-groups-flna950476

- Columbia: https://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2025-07-01/columbia-to-pay-9-million-to-settle-lawsuit-over-us-news-college-ranking

You can’t seriously be comparing Northeastern to the likes of Cal, Columbia, and Emory? Those schools’ prestige stems from outstanding academics (in spite of these missteps) and each accepted responsibility for their conduct. By comparison Northeastern only claims the mantle of “prestige” through unethical marketing tactics and data manipulation designed to create the appearance of selectivity. Absurd comparison.

DP. Your reading comprehension sucks. Nowhere did the PP compare prestige. Read again and then apologize for your error.

You can get a pretty good idea about a college when you realize that it considers US News Ranking "Life and Death".

All the manipulation to be a........... T100 university!! LOL

Whoa, this is a whole new level of prestige whoring! Hilarious.

Imagine the so-called already prestigious schools outright cheating for that ranking.
NU at least followed and played by the rules and legitimately climbed the ranking.

Not an NEU booster, but I believe they were always T100.

Also not a booster and no affiliation, but they were definitely outside of the top 100 way back then.

Being a matter of life + death was not a literal statement of course, but detractors grab onto any morsel available. Northeastern has done a really nice job of evaluating the landscape and improving its standing.

I'll never understand what must be missing in someone's life to need to punch down on others perceived as lower. It makes them look pathetic, not strong.

NP. I have a kid who was WL a couple of years ago and have no other connection. The NEU detractors are fn crazy! Their posts outnumber boosters 10:1. The obsession is concerning.

Believe it or not, there are actually people that compare NEU to Harvard because of the manufactured low acceptance rate.

That is like comparing a Taco Bell to a fine dining restaurant.

Nobody seriously believes NEU should be in the T100, right? Do people not have any critical thinking skills anymore?

Granny, we don't live in the 1980s anymore. Wake the F up already.

No offense but your IQ must be worse than your vocabulary if this is how you communicate. I can see the demographic who believes NEU is T100. I guess it is easy to con your type.

Just so odd that because some boomer parent had their kid rejected from Northeastern that it burns their soul so much they go on this quest to inform the world that Northeastern is the evil empire?

Northeastern is the poster child of how to survive as an academic institution in this day and age. Unfortunately for the OP they are thriving.
