Where is the fat in private schools?

They charge a lot of money so they can provide the services and the environment that people are willing to pay in order to have. So do you think financial aid is a waste of your money? And would you like to see financial aid eliminated so your tuition can be reduced to $55,000? You probably shouldn’t be at that school to begin with. Are the social justice trips around the world just another fat to be trimmed? A lot of people are at the school in part because they love that their kids will have those learning experiences. If those are the sorts of things you would like to see eliminated so that your tuition bill can be reduced, you probably shouldn’t be at the school to begin with. A few of the previous posters have commented that development department at their school employs too many people. Folks, they literally are there to pay for themselves plus all the excess dollars they raise for the school. Sheesh.

The fact that you are happy with a mediocre product doesn’t mean that everyone else should also be happy. Yes you can leave, but before that you provide feedback. Pretty normal in any business.

Lmao. I don’t think the product is mediocre. I’m thrilled with the product I’m getting, and I’m not looking for any fat to be cut. So you can leave if you want, but I’m not sure your feedback will matter much to anyone. There’s another family waiting for your spot. Adiós.

With that attitude no wonder US education is getting worse and worse. Enjoy your mediocre education!

Thank you!!! And I’m happy to talk about the quality of education, but this thread is about whether there is fat in the budget. Two different conversations.

Your welcome. By the way they could be related. Some private schools charge 60k for comparable quality of a school charging 20k. So there is a lot of fat and mediocrity. But you are right, people have the freedom to waster their money as they please.

Maybe the issue of fat is not framed correctly but rather the quality of education or value per dollar spent. Recently I read my kid report card from school (with a tuition of 60k), while the report card had wonderful words about my kid it’s very hard to understand what they are actually learning during the school year. I understand the topics, but it’s very hard to tell whether the actual content it’s better than in a public school. People assume it’s better but it’s not entirely clear.

Many pages of comments in this thread, but very very little fat has been identified.

If people cannot be specific, perhaps there is not much fat after all.

1. An increase in non-teaching faculty
2. An increase in non-teaching faculty salaries
3. financial aid budgets (I personally support a robust financial aid budget, but depending on your definition this could fall under "fat")

This is for sure one of the troll's favorite rise and shine threads. Not enough private school hate going on for DCUM, pull up the fat finders of private schools thread and try to kill any true exchange of information 🤣

How on earth a tuition of 60k would have some fat. It’s a steal!

A. The quality is objectively high B. Doesn’t cost 60k C. I will sell you an Amazon knock off for LV because you don’t seem to compare prices 🤣.

I do compare pricing, I just use my ability to choose to make an educated choice and don't complain as if I had a bait and switch afterwards and act like a premium company should "trim the fat" to give me a better price🤣

You should try harder 🤣. Keep shopping LV. You seem to better at that rather than looking for good schools.

And judging by the language and your arguments you don’t seem particularly qualified. Another exciting example besides LV? I am enjoying it.

Sports cost privates a lot, and most probably don’t bring much in via ticket sales and concessions. We are at a Catholic private and both my kids play sports so I don’t have a problem with this. I think we get a lot for our tuition. If we were at a $60k a year private I might feel differently.
