Agree w this. People have to live their own lives and I get it if a kid wants to switch teams, but basically the options are (1) go back to ML and deal with that craziness again, or (2) go to NL and compete with 30+ other players for PT. Prob makes most sense to stay put. No more Hoco now, just summer tournaments, biggest focus will be HS ball from now on. Any new players headed to NL will result in existing NL players heading out the door in search of PT, and they'll most likely go to DCE. This is all pretty pointless. |
One kid left DCE and that person has been to ML and back from a few places. Oh well. Whoever said circle jerk - gross terminology but sadly accurate. ML and NL should maybe just try to deal with the kids who they made offers to in August but both leaders are actively pursuing outside players to poach. Which is insanity on all sides considering both teams now have 30 kids filling positions they didn’t need to fill. |
The kids leaving to go to NL only force the existing NL players to the red team. It's tough on them and the parents, but their high school rosters are really strong. Prior to the rise of NL, Madlax did the same and moved kids to the dmv team.
On the DCE front, this has been forecasted and seen over the last 3 years as Anzelone's kids age out and he and Olan have less to do with the club. All you have to do is look at their web site and know it's not of the same caliber as NL and ML. The continued involvement of Horsey, now a failed girls coach, doesn't help. |
Skeptical of this. If my son gets rewarded with an offer for the Red team as a result of DM's non-stop player poaching and hunting for the next shiny object, there's no way I'll continue to pour thousands of dollars into his program. No disrespect to the Red team but if your kid is capable of playing Elite (at least, you think he is) you're going to try DCE or Madlax before you drop down. Simple as. "Caliber of website" is also ridiculous. All three teams have terrible websites. Bobby Horsey won Naptown with the DCE 2026 team, which per US Club Lax is ranked 13 in the country. Now he's a "failed girls coach," who presence isn't helping? Personally I think he's kind of a jerk but your statement is unsupported by facts. DCE/ML/NL all have teams in at least the top 50 at all age groups. |
This is sad, but true. Bobby Horsey had a 1-12 record this year. |

Just checked. Anyone being objective can see the difference between the 3 club sites in question. Horsey is no longer the head girls coach at Bullis and I think he's been let go of 4 head coaching positions. That really good 26 DCE team has had several players leave this year. The 27's have lost way more than they've won over the last 2 years and it looks like the 28's are on the same path.
That sounds really bad for DCE but if they stay in business and my kid wasn't in the rotation at NL where they never sub poles or attack; or at ML where they consistently bring in out of towners; I'd run over to DCE so long as Horsey isn't the coach. |
It actually makes sense that Mad Lax has all their practice times and locations listed on a public website - then they don’t have to add and subtract people constantly from a Team Snap which would draw attention to a lot of things that CM probably doesn’t want regular dues paying families to see and probably require a dedicated employee at this point. Next Level has less info but both have full rosters. Next Level’s wasn’t updated for years but it’s updated with the kids who played in HoCo and I bet DM will get into the online roster flex game now too. |
This thread should be called Tortured Poets Department - Laxmom's Version. RECAP FOR THOSE JUST TUNING IN: So much youth lacrosse angst emanating from the (703). Did someone in Fairfax County get their heart broken by DCE, yet refuses to go back to their toxic ex? Is NL the new Travis Kelce, and will it last? What about playing time for kids you've never met - aren't you concerned about the 'oversubscribed 8th grade lacrosse roster epidemic' that is sweeping the DMV? And who will win the all important 8th grade roster flex game this summer? If you are looking for uninformed youth lacrosse hot takes you came to the right place! If you want real information or thoughtful perspective you could talk to a real, live 2025 or 2026 parent, but eww, no. More hot takes please! Is Bobby Horsey a GOAT or a goat? Only the Tortured Laxmoms can say for sure. |

Best. Thread. Ever. |

Agree. The real problem is parents!!! Bullis girls players mostly suck with a few that have any talent! Most of the girls could care less about getting better or committing to learning from a lax rat like Horsey who knows the game. He might be jerk but he can play and teach lax it just sad some ladies feelings where hurt and cried to mommy and daddy. If you suck you suck don't blame the coach!
Lets get back to the crazy 28 mess of boys looking for love in all the wrong places..... This is sad, but true. Bobby Horsey had a 1-12 record this year. |
Outside of using a stick to catch a ball girls and boys lacrosse are very different. Yes speed and athletics are important in both but the rules are almost completely different. I have nonidea if he was a good or bad coach but sometimes coaching doesn't translate over. |
