STA is trying, but there are things that the top basketball players don’t want to put up with that are going on at STA, and STA can’t keep these top players.

What would they be putting up with at STA that they wouldn't be at Sidwell?

And also, just curious where GDS would fall on your list. Are they below STA for basketball (no need to discuss academics, that’s not the question). Thanks!!

MAC is usually not as competitive as the IAC, but it’s still good. The conferences schools generally have better academics than the WCAC and st Andrew’s and Sidwell are both in the MAC which for the last couple years have had better teams than any school in the IAC.

That's not true at all. Sidwell has been the class of the IAC/MAC the past two years. That's correct. But St. Andrew's has not been better than SSSAS, Bullis or Landon the past couple of years. In fact, until this past season, SSSAS was probably the strongest of all of the IAC/MAC teams over the past four or five years. Sidwell has assumed the crown while SSSAS has fallen off significantly. Bullis is doing what they can to close the gap. Landon has a great senior who is on his way to play at UPenn. Next year they may fall off a bit. But all of those IAC schools are better than St. Andrew's in basketball. Top to bottom, the IAC is a superior conference to the MAC. It's true in football, basketball, baseball and lacrosse. MAC might have the edge in soccer and tennis.

Well one of Sidwell's 2 losses this year was to St. Andrew's. Landon didn't beat them. SSSAS and Bullid didn't play them.

No wear in the country can you avoid AAU grind. My friends with kids in LA and Dallas complain about it. You need a school that works with athlete demands. Boarding schools do. Bullis does. GdS does. SSAS does. stone ridge does. MCPS publics, non magnets do.

Seen transfers out of Potomac and SFS due to athletics. Had nothing to do with inability to do the work, and everything with creating overly stressed demands, work ahead of time, no leeway, likely penalized grades and group work.

Do Sidwell coaches offer any summer camps or training? I see STA does.

Also, would be interested in strengths and weaknesses of STA coaching.

Bump. Any insight on how to gain exposure to Sidwell coaching ahead of applying?

Do they, any of their assistants or any prominent alum run basketball camps or clinics? That would be one way. Do any of their coaches also coach AAU?

I would imagine that they are present in dine capacity in at PYBL and other well known summer leagues. Anecdotally, I know of very good players in AAU who were getting talked to informally in 5th grade. Is your child really good because Sidwell is now a serious program and imagine that they are only looking at solid talent these days.

I would reach out to the head coach. He is very approachable.

Sidwell offers summer camps, so does STA. These are money makers for the school. Also, STA bball season off to a way better start this season. The schools program is looking promising again!
