In any event, currently the President has no power to force workers back because they have issued guidance that allows each agency or department to make those decisions independently.

In addition, the ship has sailed for Bowser and DC as OPM has now issued official guidance for “Remote Work” as distinguished from “Telework”.

Bowser is going to need to figure out how to deal with DC’s problems without a Federal bailout and its a bit unnerving that the city keeps running back to the Federal government for a bailout every time they get themselves into trouble.

Yeah, I am from DC and find the whole "give us independence" but "bail us out" dynamic really troubling.

It definitely sets back statehood arguments when they do this. It just shows that the city is not worthy because it’s incapable of managing its own affairs.

Bowser and the council are party to this. They could also focus policy wise on areas that need development and policy that gets in the way. What's up with the high rent empty real estate up and down Wisconsin and Connecticut Ave? Go after that - a lot easier than begging the Feds for help. These are private landlords/corporation

It’s just shows that they spent the last decade promoting a development policy grounded in jealousy and spite instead of what should have been in the best long-term interest of the city. They’ve upzoned Ward 3 but now have a dead downtown. Which is more important to the city’s economy or future? And all because they couldn’t stand the thought of people having a detached house with a yard that wasn’t them.
