If you like dark, strong coffee, you are not going to select a premium breakfast blend as the best coffee in the world. It's going to be something strong and dark. If you think red wines are superior and all white wines suck, you will rate great Bordeauxs and cabernets best, not a chardonnay.

Get the drift? There is NOTHING magical about one website's set of rankings. They created a formula that they like and applied it. It gets them attention, advertisers, and fees from the schools to be there.

If that formula doesn't reflect a parent's priorities then it's a GIGO model.

Niche has its own formula that discounts many features that DCUM parents ask about and prioritize all the time. BIM is an academic grind machine, which is what Niche values.

If you don't want anything else at your DC's school, send them there. Otherwise, check out DCUM's other threads to see if BIM is ever ranked by actual tuition-paying parents above the other established DMV privates.

I'm a GDS parent who thinks that the Niche rankings are complete garbage.

Niche, just like any other well known ranking websites, can serve as an OK proxy. In other words, no “top ranked” school will suck and no “bottom ranked” school will be great. Not very useful to decide which school is better amongst closely ranked peers. I’d say this for any sites including college ranking ones.

No one normal sends their kid to BASIS. It’s not a private school in the same vein as schools like Sidwell, GDS, Potomac, STA, NCS, Holton, Landon, Maret, Visi, Burke, Field, Prep, etc…. Isn’t BASIS DC ranked the best private school in VA?
