| Teacher here. Another vote for year round with breaks between quarters rather than the random days scattered through the year. It would definitely help with continuity and planning. Plus travel during non peak times would be awesome for staff and families alike. |
I don’t think it will ever happen. I really wished they would do a week in early November. |
Or, you don't know what every single teacher in your pyramid really thinks. |
Actually some FCPS schools used to do a modified school year calendar and then they got rid of it. Arlington also has a couple that are modified. I think a modified schedule like Europe does would be ideal. There is no need for 9-10 week summer. Even if it was 7 weeks, you can add those breaks somewhere else. |
If they got rid of those modified calendars a decade ago I doubt they’re going back. |
I don’t think they will ever do it again, but it wasnt modified like people here are proposng. They basically started when we start now and got out a little earlier. It was when fcps started after Labor Day and the modified calendar schools started the last two weeks of August. |
+1 ES teacher |
You're right. But I know quite a lot of them. |
| Why does Arlington start on the 29th and Fairfax on the 22nd? And we both get out the same week? What are they doing better with their calendar? |
Probably don't include religious holidays and so many teacher "work" days. |
| Another HS Teacher. I love my long summer breaks and would hate a year round school calendar. It really is just impossible to please everyone. |
They have less Teacher Workdays. The religious holidays is not the issue. It is the TEACHER WORKDAYS added on to the religious holidays. There are too many. I say this as a teacher. |
+1 they really over-did it this year. |
Fairfax believes it's more equitable to have 4 day school weeks. |
Wrong. It is absolutely the extra holidays - Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashana, and Diwali…wtf?! |
