Are you watching The Staircase on HBO Max?

That video of Michael on the day that he made the Alford plea, when is asked point blank if he killed her and he says that Kathleen's death was an accident, are we supposed to take away from that that he's admitting guilt?

Also, I really really hope that the series over-dramatized how much Sophie idolized Michael b/c man... that was painful to watch.

The way Jean interviews him that final time and Michael either confesses to a previous lie OR demonstrates a lie based in redefining a common word totally inaccurately, leads one to know that when the next question of killing Kathleen’s in responded with “ it’s an accident”, the viewer knows that in Michael’s psychotic mind it was actually “it was an accident how I actually killed her.” When talking to such a sociopath narcissist they love to argue and win with semantics and riddles. You basically can’t talk with them, as everyone close to him found out. He doesn’t talk about things, he deflects or gets angry and stonewalls off.

I agree that I picked up on his partial lies on a few occassions.

I think he "accidentally" got her killed by having a lover on the property who later killed her. So it was his fault either way.

I want to know whose DNA was on the used condom they found upstairs.

Are people taking the HBO series for the truth? I watched to documentary first and there are some pretty big fabrications/outright lies in the series that people seem to be citing here as the truth.

I also don't even recall the owl theory from the documentary.

The documentary, on Netflix and editted by the defense team if Michael Peterson, omits several things. Including the emotional affair turned physical with the woman editor of said documentary footage. Plus other things.

The new hbo mini series is suspenseful as it takes in several theories over time, is entertaining with excellent acting, character development and cinematography. It incorporates and tapes the documentary team doing its “work” plus the family, neighbors, etc. it would be great to, at some date, read a Vanity Fair article on what due diligence they did to further develop the plot arcs of all family members, the French documentarians, and general narcissistic pathological liars.

The hbo series does a great job not putting forth a legal killer or not killer verdict, but also does a great job demonstrating that M Peterson is an unreliable, untrustworthy, self-centered sociopath. And for many people, not the court system per se, that’s all one needs to know.

Exactly.

To someone on the spectrum or a sociopath, the response to Did you kill her?: “It was an accident”, is indeed accurate.

mP didn’t wake up planning to fly into a rage and kill his wife, but he accidentally did just that. So literally, and black and white, it was indeed an accident to him folks…

Define “it” in It was an accident.

There was no lover on the property during Friday movie night. Makes no sense, unless he came very late to stalk the place out. Also a theory presented in the hbo miniseries.

Not really, same case and characters, different view and theories. And very well made and entertaining. It’s funny how it includes the crazy documentary filmmakers living in America filming this all. What kind of personality going through the trauma of solo parenting, a dead spouse and a trial would want a film crew following hem around 24/7 for multiple years!?!?!? Who even funded that? Did they pay the Peterson family too, during filming or royalties later??

But if it was such an accident then why was it step by step what he did to Liz? I think he “knew” a way to kill a woman and get out of it. Him thinking it’s been this many years and another country, the coast is clear. She was very drunk and on drugs so I truly believe he plotted it.

Correct no accident.
He confessed this to the French lady: I am done living and being with women. Just as he was done with them twice before.

He doesn’t want to be with anyone who has needs of their own. Which is everyone healthy.

Who’s Liz?

The neighbor in Germany who did but did not die if an anerysum?

Kathleen's head injuries were bizarre, in that there were no skull fractures or cerebral hemorrhaging. NO other case in NC had this.

UNTIL one of Petersen's lovers was killed and received a similar head beating. It wasn't Petersen who was in jail at the time. Dennis Rowe had similar head injuries to KP.

I think the same person killed them both. I think it was one of Michael's hook ups who was familiar with the home.

Yes, also a staircase fall. Mother of his two adopted daughters.

He was prob banging her or her husband, got discovered and offed one down the stairs.

The miniseries does an excellent job slowly revealing how many wives he’s had and which children are from whom, and who’s alive or not. So well-delivered.

MP has 2 brothers and a sister, and the sister supported him to begin with, but came to the belief that he did it. She shared her feelings with her brothers. The lawyer one was like "And?" As in, you support your family no matter. The other brother made a bridge. So that shows how MP had a dysfunctional family, and created a dysfuctional family, and on it goes.

I waver. I 100% believe that he should not have been convicted. OTOH, most of the time I think he did it.

He’s a manipulative user. Pump and dump. Sweet talk in between.

I’m frankly shocked the French lady was that naive and dumb. Her coworkers, well one of them, really kept his mouth shut while she wasted her time with a psycho. Then he said way at the end: You’re better off with out him.
