Is it a thing for older people to be picked up from the airport?

You've clearly never lived in NYC.

Or LA. I’d throw Boston into the mix too.

I lived in Boston you literally can get to the airport in 15 minutes from every part of Boston, so yes you pick up Family.

I guess I’m a sucker because I’ve driven to pick up family in LA when I lived in San Diego.

You clearly don't have family in Atlanta. Get your a** on MARTA and they'll see you at the train station.

It's a city and a horrendous traffic thing.

My family in Atlanta come get me from the airport even when I offer to Lyft or Uber. My dad prefers it. I would not expect them to Uber or Lyft to/from my house either even though they can.

My family picks me up in Boston because it is 15 mins each way. I mostly don’t pick them up because it’s 45 minutes each way, but often they will fly into national, take the metro and I’ll pick them up there.

From someone in LA- yes you are, lol. Though the traffic is horrific going from LAX into West Hollywood. It's taken me 2-3 hours before

What? I guess I’m a sucker then. Maybe my Uber always takes a circuitous route to my destination because it always take longer than 15 minutes.

Yes, good manners is to offer to Lyft or Uber. How your host handles that is up to them.

I just looked up West Roxbury to Logan...40 minutes right now.

OP flew the thread after she dropped the bomb that the main issue is her DH sucks and can't handle their children's daily needs without hand holding.

So yeah. This isn't about the airport pick up, it's about her lame DH.

My mom can navigate much midday into evening, but struggles in the morning. Traffic isn’t bad right now. It’s still lighter with many working from home. At most you’ll be navigating holiday shoppers.

Umm, if your parent is not lucid enough to be able to find a taxi why are they traveling alone?? They're not driving the car.

Yeah that is terrible. Even if I had to bring the kids, we would have a great time picking up grandpa. If traffic was that terrible we wouldn’t go straight home. Plenty to do close to the airport.

It's a city thing. You don't expect relatives in NYC to pick you up at the airport.

Oh please, do you really live a Manhattan car-less lifestyle here? Or are you getting into your car all the time to drive to groceri s and activities and everything else. It doesn't have to do with the "city"

NP- would love a list of all the things to do close to the airports for situations like this! Covid-friendly preferred

I don’t expect family to wait for me and specifically ask not to be waited on since it’s more effective
