I'm confused about the water that the instructions say to steam the food in. So you fill the resevoir up to the 1,2,or 3 line according to what you are steaming. But what I don't get is the instructions don't take the AMOUNT of the food into account. So if I'm steaming 1 carrot or 5, I fill the water to the 3 line - ? I am concerned that I am wasting a lot of the nutrients down the drain - especially with foods like pear and peaches that dont need the leftover water it cooked it when it's being pureed (it's already thin enough without the water). Ideas for how to minimize the water but to still cook the food thoroughly? Or just guidance in general about this machine would be greatly appreciated!
I only ever used it for fruit and veggies and never used the 3. I typically used the 2 for hard veggies, like carrots, yams, or squash and the 1 for things with more water, like apples, peaches, pears, spinach. I did not vary that based on the amount I was cooking, though. The basket is not big enough for that to matter, really, so I just always based it on food texture.
PP, for the fruits, did you add the water back in before pureeing them?
Not the PP but I saved the fruit juice and added it into some of the more dense veggie purees or into DS's morning oatmeal or into whole fat yogurt. or into my own martini...
