Is the GOP imploding?

Anonymous
It seems at this point as if the party of business interests is being done in by the same forces it harnessed for so long to vote against their own interests. The Tea Partiers seem viscerally incapable of voting for anything that is in the American People's interest (assuming they're part of the American People), so now what?

Is it time for the few moderate Republicans left who still stand for fiscal responsibility to splinter off and create a new party, even at the risk of being outnumbered by the liberals and in the "opposition" for some time, until liberal excesses give them the upper hand again? Or is it better to close ranks with the GOP as it stands in the name of ideology and watch the decline and fall of the American Empire?

I think the moderate republicans should become their own party. I think they'd be really, really strong. By default, they'd be the "center" party, and could be a strong force within 5-10 years.

I agree that these people appear to have "got high on their own supply". A good chunk of republican congressmen appear to be beyond the limits of reason and rationality. They will do terrible damage to the economy, but their calculation seems to be that they can blame it all on Obama. I think they may be correct, such is the stupidity of their electorate.

3 possible outcomes

*Tea party crumbles/ returns to GOP.

*Boehner and sane GOP becomes a swing vote btw tea party and Dems. This is what would happen in a parliamentary political system with PR.

*Dems rule

I don't see #1 happening in the short term. I would like to see #2. As liberal as I am, I think that their point of view is valuable to America. The only problem is that our govt is not a proportional representation system. therefore they can never win the white house in this status.

you are misreading this. The GOP is the tea party. They have energy and a platform and are consolidating their hold in the GOP. They will win big in the next election. What do the liberals have.. nothing. The only thing they get energy for is gay marriage.(outing people, going after corporate supports, you don't see that on any other liberal issues??) What do the dems stand for? Mark "Let make the world safe for business" Warren, Obama(avoid a fight at all cost) If Obama had balls he would have made a recess appointment for everyone(including Elizabeth Warren), filled all the open position and called a press conference and told congress to do your job.
Yes we are all so excited about voting for the dems, "Vote for me I will cave on every issue"

I believe the official slogan is "Vote for me. I'll screw you silly but at least my judicial appointees won't be quite as bad".

You are wrong in one regard, however. The Democratic grassroots are very fired up in places like Wisconsin, Ohio, and Michigan. That has nothing to do with the national party and actually could be said to be in spite of the national party.

I might be able to live with that. Better than one day watching a sitting president say "evolution is just a theory"

The worst part is how Obama just sticks it to the liberal every time and says where you going to go? At least Carter was right on the issues, unlike Obama.
