Food, Cooking, and Restaurants
| There are so many to chose from!! I have a date night with my husband and we are looking for somewhere that is not too fancy. Any ideas? TIA |
|
Yes -- Cafe LaRuche is nice ...you can buy a $25 certficate on restaurant.com today for $2 or--you can go to Paper Moon with a restaurant.com certificate. Groupon had a Piccolo deal and also a deal for Peacock Cafe. They are all nice restaurants.
You could go to Cady's Alley to Cafe Leopolds or try out the new Serendipity if you're in the mood for some fun. |
| I like La Chaumiere a lot for French food, and Tom Sietsema has been talking it up lately too. (Post food reviewer.) I'm also a fan of Mendocino Grill, especially if you like wine. Unfortunately Hook had a fire recently, or I'd recommend that as well. I've had decent meals at Paper Moon, but it's been awhile. Peacock was nice when I was last there a few years ago. And generally J Paul's and Clyde's are reliable. (I also like Filomena for Italian, but the decor is a little crazy/oppressive.) |
I couldn't disagree more. None of the bolded restaurants are any good. In fact, they're awful. Cafe Leopold is good, though. Dirty little secret - although Georgetown has a lot of restaurants, most of them stink. For date night, try Bistro Lepic or Bistro Francais. I like La Chaumiere a lot, but you have to like classic french (pike quenelles, offal, cassoulet). |
| Filomena |
In 1998, yes. In 2011? Not excited about it. |

I love Bistro Lepic and Cafe Milano. Also, Neyla has good food, and you can sit outside. La Chaumiere is fun, but I prefer it in the winter.
Peacock is mediocre and you'll end up surrounded by young kids - people only go there b/c they're very nice to families. The food is pretty bad and the eighties decor is an embarrassment. I like Cafe LaRouche for lunch by not for dinner. I agree with PP to forget Filomena, Paper Moon or Piccolo. Also, Hook is overrated and beginning to look dated. The entrees are underwhelming. |

See, I think Cafe LaRuche is a fantastic hidden gem, while La Chaumiere is fuddy-duddy and over rated.
I would go to Hook. |
| Actually, we really like Cafe La Ruche and Piccolo. Like Filomena but it's predictable. Paper Moon's food is awful. |
| Hook is closed because of a fire. Il Canale is a good choice for Italian... much more so than Piccolo, Paper Moon or Filomena |
| Il Canale is terrible |
| Mendocino has been closed for awhile now. |
