How much more are you willing to pay in taxes? Nothing, I bet. You want more maternity leave, go liv in Sweden. You get more than enough and,as a taxpayer, I don't my taxes raised so you can loll around at home.

I am absolutely willing to pay more in taxes for longer maternity leave and subsidized child care. What kind of dumbass nation hamstrings its own workforce?

Fine, you pay 50% more in taxes but I don't want to pay 50% more in taxe for you. You want more maternity leave, take it without pay or quit and be a SAHM. Simple.

Well, walmart does not give workers health care, or paid overtime.
And currently we have the most expensive system with the least amount of service
Children are our future, the government should invest in them. Not useless wars or bankers bailouts. Somehow there is always money for that.
Life with a baby is not lolling around the house

Let me make sure I understand this - you want more maternity leave where you get paid to be on leave? Otherwise, you could just quit and stay home. I am so sick of everyone wanted someone else to pay for their choices. More people in this country already get some form of payment from the government than those that don't. It's essentially paying groups of people for their vote. How is that a republic/democracy?

As for what I'd like to see, I'd like to see more respect for the choices that we do make. That has less to do with how much paid maternity leave you get as it does the ability to return to the workforce or to be taken seriously when looking for a job when you are of childbearing age. That you be spared the stigma of "she won't be a good worker once she's a mother." That's our entire culture, not just the Republicans.

You are funny.
When is paid maternity leave paying for someones choice? As far as I understand paying for unemployment is also paying for someones choice. Someone chose to lay off workers, or the worker chose to be bad, so you are paying for that choice.
And it is the survival instinct of the heard to look after the needs of the newly born. This is with all animals. Whether or not some alpha males like to take part in it or not, it happens.
And you must be really dumb to think that women of childbearing age are not taken seriously in the work place. I sense that in many ways you certainly are not being taken seriously.

I am so sick of politicians putting businesses (small and large) interests over citizen's needs. It's insanity. I would gladly pay more taxes to live like the Swedes. THey have a really high quality of life and have one of the most transparent governments in the world. There culture is highly tolerant too.

not true
Of course it will not happen here. Here the country is being run by feudal-lords turned CEOs and bankers to whom the politicians give bail outs.
