Any suggestion / home remedies to induce labor?

Anonymous

I've heard sex, walking, etc.... any other hints?

These were mentioned by the teacher of our Bradley class...I have not tried them myself so I cannot vouch for their accuracy:

1) acupressure points -- the 'web' between your thumb and first finger and the inside of your ankle. You would need to check with an acupuncturist or massage therapist to verify exact location. Too hard to explain in this forum. (don't press it now to test...ha ha (-:
2) castor oil
3) spicy foods
4) sex/passionate kissing
5) red raspberry tea

metamucil (sp?) worked for me.

We did both sex and lots of high-energy walking. I have no idea if they helped. I eventually had my membranes stripped and *think* it may have helped, but really don't know. I agree that these things don't help unless baby is ready anyway.

Sex, walking and red wine. I did all three and my son was born the next day!

I had a really long day at work where I was on my feet for most of the day (I did a ton of site visits and walking around).

I went to the hospital that next morning - 5 cm dilated.

Good luck and congrats-in-advance.

Okay ladies, you're not going to like this answer but I honestly don't believe any of those suggestions work unless the baby is ready to come. I was at risk for pre-term labor starting from week 20 (cervical shortening). By week 37 my OB let me up from bed rest and was allowed to have sex. I was also dialated by about 2 cm. I had sex, walked for a couple of hours a day, ate spicy food, even had my membranes stripped on two occasions and guess what? My DD wasn't coming because she wasn't ready.

All the sex did was make me uncomfortable (cramping and contracting afterwards) and the stripping did the same. My DD came 1 day after her due date and 1 day before I was scheduled to be induced. So basically she was coming on her terms.

Some said to try the castor oil or teas...I'm glad I didn't since I didn't want to be crampy and have diarrhea. Not to mention that would not have been a pretty sight if I had gone into labor....diarrhea while giving birth. Hmmm, I'll pass thank you! ;o)

Best wishes,
Christina

According to my OB, to whom I recently asked this question (i'm 40 weeks and 5 days), none of these work.

Good luck!
