Infertility Support and Discussion
| I am proscribed prometrium to take during the 2ww (protocol at Shady Grove). I am not feeling good about this cycle and took an at home pregnancy test tonight and got a negative. I have my blood test with the RE on Wednesday morning. I want to get the show on the road with my cycle and don't want to delay it anymore than need be waiting for my AF. It takes me several days after stopping the prometrium to get my AF. Is there any harm in stopping the prometrium and if by some force of nature I actually find out I am pregnant on Wednesday I could simply start taking prometrium again? |
| Don't stop taking it. If by chance you are pregnant, then stopping it could induce a miscarriage. |
| Where did you hear that? I don't think that is correct. |
From my RE. Progesterone supplements raise your progesterone levels and are used until the placenta takes over (around 8-10 weeks). If your progesterone levels drop significantly or below a certain level before the placenta takes over, then you are at higher risk for miscarriage. That's why clinics ask you to not stop supplements until you have a blood test done to confirm you are not pregnant. Otherwise, they would let you just to stop on your own with POAS. |

I was taking the prometrium faithfully, wasn't pregnant, and still got my period the day of my blood test, even though everyone and their damn mother said you won't get it till you stop the progesterone.
I wouldn't stop though...there are enough cases of people getting negative home tests and finding out they have a beta of 300 to make me wonder. Not all home tests are created equal. |

Don't stop till the blood test. That kind of drop in progesterone levels can induce a period.
As for getting your period on the supplements, mine was delayed because I delayed my beta (out of town) but it did break through after a delay of about 5 days. Some women get their period anyway and for the rest of us, it will start to come eventually. I didn't get a full, regular red flow till I stopped, though. |
