If you measured big/ahead....

Just curious. We are 100% sure of our dates and our 9-week scan gave an EDD within a day of what was expected, so my OB has kept that as the due date. But since the 13-week scan, the baby has been consistently measuring a week ahead of the EDD---at the 20-week scan and for each fundal height measurement.

We're having a boy, but genetics are not in favor of his being a big baby---both parents were 7-pounders at full-term, and dad has been under the 5th percentile for weight and height since infancy (through to age 40 today, and with a family full of the same). No GD in play and they thought the amniotic fluid looked normal at the last scan.

So I'm just wondering---if your baby measured big, was he or she actually big at birth, or is there some randomness involved in the measurements? (I know the ultrasounds can be off but it just seems odd that the fundal height would be giving the same measurement.) I can't help but wonder if we have some funny genetics skipping a few generations in there and will have a bigger (or earlier?) kid headed our way. We're only in month 6 so I know this could average out in the remaining weeks, too...but curious!

My first consistently measured a week or so ahead. He was born a few days early and was 9 lbs 3 ounces.

My ultrasounds at 20 weeks and beyond were measuring big. I had a final ultrasound and went into labor within 48 hours. My 10 lb. baby was exactly what they estimated at the last ultrasound.

BUT - I expected a big baby, due to our genes. Even though it was accurate for me, I am still very, very skeptical about estimates (and good doctors will also only take them for what they are - rough estimates that can be off by 2 lbs in either direction).

My son measured a week big consistently. He was born at 8lbs at 36 weeks. My husband and I were both good sized full-term babies (he was 8lbs and I was 9lbs).

From 20wks on, DD measured 2wks ahead (we knew her conception date). OB was preparing me for her to be born on-time as a 9lb'er. She was born 2wks after her due date, weighing 7lbs.

My son measured a week ahead pretty much my entire pregnancy, but was born right on time and only weighed 7 lb 5 oz. We were expecting a bigger baby b/c I was 9 lb 3 oz at birth and DH was over 8 lb.

Both me and DH were average size (7.5 - 8 pounders). I was measuring about a week ahead for DD1 and she came a few days early at 9 lbs 10 oz. Very unexpected since u/s the morning I was induced measured her between 7-8 lbs. She is still a VERY big kid (100%).

Now, with DD2 I am measuring very far ahead (2-3 weeks consistently from about 20 weeks) and some u/s measurements of her belly are 4 weeks ahead! Sigh. I'm definitely looking at an early induction. 35 weeks now.

Always measured weeks ahead...had to get growth scans every 5 weeks at hospital. No GD..at 36 weeks we were told to expect an 11 pounder. Had scheduled c/s at exactly 40 weeks.. With a 10.4 lb baby boy. They were pretty close to weight..and we also knew 100% accuracy date of conception...

My third measured ahead from pretty early in the pregnancy. No GD, and the first two were average size (6.5 lbs at 37 weeks and 7.5 lbs at 40 weeks). My husband was also an average size at birth. (I was a preemie, so I don't really factor that in)

I was induced at 38.5 weeks, and he was 9.5 lbs. He was off the charts for size until about 18 months and is still a taller kid than you would expect, given his parents' and sisters' rather average size.

My baby measured in the 86th percentile at the 20 week ultrasound and OB told me to stop eating bad food and told me if she kept it up I'd have to have a C section. I cried when I got home. And then during subsequent appointments baby measured average. I gained 40 pounds but she came out 7 lbs 2 oz, and she's still a skinny minny.

hope you found a new dr. Seems like yours wasn't very nice. My kid always measured 10-12 days ahead and we knew exactly date of conception. I gained 28 pounds and kid was 9lb 9oz, no c-section.

My baby consistently measured Huge, OMG, off the charts big. The dates were precise since I did IVF -- no guessing there!
He was born at 39 weeks, 7 lbs 12 oz, 21 inches. At 38 weeks they had measured me as 'beyond 42 weeks', more than 9 lbs. Go figure.

OP here---thanks! Sounds like we just have to wait and see. They didn't actually tell us his percentile at the 20-week scan---just that he was measuring 14 ounces and that was "big." The 13-week scan and the fundal height measurements have all been given to us in terms of inches and weeks...no weight guesstimates based on those, and unless a problem develops we're done with ultrasounds, so I guess we'll just have to see how it pans out!

We consistently measured big (we were once told to plan on a 10 lb. baby!), but DD was born a week late at 7 lbs. 9 oz. and 22 inches long. She ended up being a very tall, skinny baby (and still is).

Baby measured big through ultrasounds. He came 11 days before my due date (100% sure of date) and was 9 lbs. 1 oz. He didn't drop, so I had a c-section. He is still big...over 97% for height/weight.
