Newborn/Infant Behavior Question

When our 6 week old sleeps, she often cries out for 10 seconds or so and then goes back to sleep. Same with snorting, too. Did your tiny ones do this, too? We often don;t know if she's about to wake up and be hungry... or if this is just part of her sleeping pattern. I know babies can be noisy sleepers but I have no recollection of our older child doing this.

My DS did this. I always thought it might have been related to his reflux. However, I've also read that brief crying while still asleep is normal.

My pediatrician suggested that babies probably have a sort of nightmare-- moments of non-specific angst while sleeping-- just like adults do.

Yes, all three of my kids did this. We called them Phantom Cries and learned not to jump up at the first cry, but just wait and see if they settled back down.
