I hate to complain b/c everything is going well technically, but I cannot understand how people call this a "honeymoon" phase. (I'm 24 weeks) EVERYTHING aches... I feel like I'm kicked in a crotch when I walk, seemingly all the ligaments and everyhitng are pulled to their max, and I walk like a little old lady. I just feel so achy, like when you're done doing a really kick-ass workout and you're just tired and fatigued (muscle-wise) all over.
Most everything else is okay, but it's annoying. I have a two year old who I try to keep up with, but I feel so tired. And for what it's worth, my iron/hemoglobin and so is my thyroid. And again, it's not sleepy-tired, but just overall achy. Anyone else or am I a baby? |
OP Here: i mean to say my iron/hemoglobin and throid are fine... |
I am sorry to hear it is crappy for you. Yes, that was my experience EXACTLY. This is my first pregnancy, and I didn't anticipate the ligament pain to be so rough. I remember walking down the hall at work, and then doubling over. Or hopping out of bed and landing firmly on the floor on my butt.
Now that I am 31 weeks, I feel much better. Of course, maybe it is because my body is much wider. But I think that the squiggle and I are a team now. I hope that you have a similar experience, when your body adjusts and your aches and pains dissipate. That seems to be others I know have had happen, so something to think about. And at least you are over half way through! Take care. |
The only advice I have is that I kept saying - it can't last forever and will be over in about x months. I felt the same way with pg #1 plus I was vomiting all day everyday from 6 weeks until delivery. Eventually I was put on a medicine to keep me from vomiting, but I tried to only take it to get through my work day. Now, I am 5.5 wks with pg#2 and wondering how I am going to do it with a 2yo also. During the school year I pick up DD and do dinner, bath, bedtime on my own and I am really worried I am not going to be able to handle it. With pg #1 I didn't have any of that additional responsibility and just crashed when I got home and DH had to make his dinner, etc.
I haven't started vomiting yet with this pg, but the last one it started at 6 wks, so we'll see how it goes. Good luck to you. |
I'm also at 24 weeks and I couldn't agree more. I just said to my husband last week that, despite not having any real problems with pregancy (so far, so good), I definitely don't feel like many of the stories you hear of women who love being pg. I, too, thought that during this phase I would feel more like my normal self, but I'm totally achy, feel stiff when I get up in the AM (and even when changing sleep positions during the night), and feel like I walk hunched over. I hate to say it, but I'm glad someone else has mentioned the pain in the crotch area - I actually feel a bit numb (or something like that, I can't describe it exactly) - but I haven't been able to find anything out about why that's happening. None of the baby books I have address it.
All I can say is that I hope this will pass, and not get too much worse, though I'm expecting it to. I guess nothing good comes without hard work (or pain, achiness, discomfort. . . .)!! |
i replied earlier - another thing that got me through was reading "girlfriends guide to pregnancy". I've heard some women didn't like it, but I thought it was hilarious and made me feel like I wasn't alone in all of the craziness that pregnancy brings. |
I went through this also. Honestly, I found that I felt the best in the early 3rd trimester.
2nd trimester was definitely not a honeymoon period for me. And, I didn't even have a 2 yo to chase after. I'd imagine that makes it even more tougher. Just try to keep reminding yourself that it's only a few months and it'll pass. |
Op Here: thanks for all the replies!!! It's good to know that I'm not alone, though sorry for all of you who are suffering with me. I hope like a PP mentioned that it gets better (though it seems counterintuitive). |
About that ligament pain in your crotch/pelvis, I had it too during the second trimester and then it got quite a bit better in the third. And more good news on that front -- one of my friends who had it bad during her first pregnancy said she had zero pain there the second time around. Seems the ligaments were already loosened and ready to go.
Hang in there!! ![]() |
Honestly, the 2nd trimester has been thrilling for me because I have so much more energy than I did in the first. I hated feeling so sluggish and unmotivated and tired.
BUT... the second trimester still has its challenges. Like you, I have all sorts of odd pains. Sometimes my back hurts. I can't always find a good sleeping position. The round ligament pain has thrown me a few times. I've been having Braxton-Hicks contractions the last few weeks, and they really alarmed me at first. Having to pee so frequently (8 times by 9:30 a.m. today!) is really annoying. And watching my body change so much in a few weeks has been really, really strange - all of a sudden I'm showing like a "real" pregnant lady, which didn't happen till pretty recently. (probably because I've been eating like a horse lately.) that said, like the other posters said, think long-term! this will all be over before we know it. ![]() |
