good sofa color for kids

Anonymous
I'm in desperate need of a new living room sofa, and my design sense is leaning toward the lighter colors - off whites - but I know that makes no sense with 2 year old twin boys. Our family room sofa is a charcoal microfiber which is great for hiding sticky fingers stains but I don't want to do the same color in the living room.

Any recomendations for other colors that work better with kids and are better for stains and spills?

We have a chocolate brown microfiber sofa. It wasn't my 1st choice but it has been amazing with my two young boys, and my husband! It looks brand new after 2 years in our living room which is where we spend almost all of our time

I went with leather. We have a dog in addition to the kiddo and I have found it so much better than our old sofa (which was a heavy denim-like cloth) when it comes to keeping it clean. I'd probably stay away from white, but I've seen rich yellow leather sofas that I have seriously lusted over (not a bright yellow, more like mustard).

I have a cream colored sofa from Crate and Barrel that has a fitted, but removable slip cover. It's over ten years old and still looks great. I even bleached it a couple of times. Unless you're going to go with leather, I actually think the lighter colors are better. I have a dark red sofa, and it fades too easily to wash very often.

Mom of 4 boys here. We have leather now.

Before the leather, we had a sofa with a really busy floral pattern...I bought it 12 years ago when Dh and I were first married, so I'm not sure if floral patterns aer still "in" right now....but it REALLY hid stains well.

Leather, definitely. It is the most durable.

I also find it "cleaner" than the idea of fabric, similar to how wood floors are cleaner than carpet. Surfaces like fabric upolstry (and carpet) gather dust and dirt and are hard to clean. Wood and leather can be wiped clean.

We have a white slipcovered sofa. We used to have a gray-green-brown sofa that was DISGUSTING from peanut butter, yogurt and all kinds of other things that show up on darker fabric. We wash and dry the slipcovers every other month or so. I also spray oxyclean directly on a stain right when it happens. Have 2 boys: 2 and 5. Maybe when they get older we'll buy a darker slipcover!
