Window Treatment Cost for 4K sq foot house?

Anonymous
How much would you estimate window treatments would cost for a 4K sq. foot house? I'm not necessarily into crazy curtains or anything and will do blinds or plantation shutters where I can...

This can range dramatically- depends if you are going with low, mid or high end brands and materials. Anyhwere from $2000-$15,000

Blinds can be inexpensive, plantation shutters aren't. I would say that the range given by the previous poster is low, although the biggest factor is not the sq footage but how many windows you have. I priced some nice Silhouette shades for my dining room and was quoted $1000/window. I have a largish family room window and the wood blinds for it ran around $1000. To do basic cellular shades is around $100/window, assuming the window is normal sized. When thinking about drapes, even basic ones, factor in the cost of rods, rings, and hardware. At the high end, the sky's the limit.

We used Hunter Douglass (high-mid to higher end for blinds). Did a range of wood blinds, blackout cellular (bedrooms, remote controlled in master), pleated romans 'vignettes' (remote controlled in our family and living rooms). Total came to about $16k.

We did 25 windows or so, some of them quite large.

Agree with the above posters. The square footage of your house is irrelevant, it's the number of windows and the type of coverings you want for each one. Assuming an average number of windows and no special shapes, etc., you could be anywhere from $2K to well over $20K. Shutters are very expensive. Pleated shades are probably cheapest, then cellular. It's more expensive for wood and fabric and specialty shades like silhouettes. There's a huge range within each category of course.

If you're trying to keep it really cheap you can buy pre-made blinds in standard sizes at places like Target and BBB. We used these when we first moved into our house for the upstairs and basement and just got custom window treatments for the main floor. We have since upgraded the upstairs but are still working on the basement (3 years later--but they really look fine.)
