We are looking to move out of the area and I've been searching listings on these sites for a few months:
Craigslist Realtor.com Zillow.com Yahoo real estate listings Are there any other good ones out there that I am missing? If it matters, we are looking in central Virginia. I have been looking at local online newspaper ads as well. |
| Redfin |
| Redfin, hands down. |
| Yeah, I checked Redfin out but (unless I am missing something) it's only in limited areas - not where I am looking (Central VA). |

franklymls.com is great for local area listings. Great info on price changes and links to tax data, school locator, and more.
I also liked somethings on redfin.com. It has pretty much the same listings as realtor and zillow but I liked redfin's map search better. And if you register, you can see redfin agent reviews of some homes. |
| I look out of state a lot for where I think we'll move and the best way is to find a local realtor that lets you search the MLS listings. Many of them will do this, you just have to google search around a little bit. I have found that Zillow and all the national sites are behind on their info. Just google the city where you want to be and realtor and see what you can find. |

www.sawbuck.com
I found it in a Washington Post article about great real estate sites. The best part is that in addition to being able to use a google maps like find feature, they have past sales for the last year with internal photos, so you can do your comp research yourself. |
| Where in Central Va? This is more local to Charlottesville, but could help. realcentralva.com |

seriously people franklymls is FAR superior to anything else for anything local. It is real-time MLS listings. You see exactly what a realtor would see. you can search by zip code, neighborhood, street, listing agent, etc. you can sort by days on market, listing price, location, walkscore, etc. It displays in list form and map form. It shows date of last sale and amount. You can see whether a property is under contract or not (which is a huge problem with other sites). You can see every property that has sold in an area in the last five years (whic is HUGE for knowing comps.)
The interface takes some getting used to and isn't quite as user-friendly as others, but the information is far superior to anything else. Sawbuck and Trulia for anything outside the area. |
