Crofton to DC commute/traffic and life in Crofton - reality check

Anonymous
Hi there! Soon-to-be single mommy of preschoolers, working full time in DC, currently living and commuting from the boonies of south Anne Arundel. My co-parent and I believe it is best for the kids to have both of us living in the same county (schools, friends, distance to mom & dad who will be sharing custody). I'm considering Crofton (the closest I can get to the city inside AA boundaries) and would like to hear your recent experiences with the commute (either driving or via public transit?) and potential quality of life for a single parent of small kids who would otherwise be happy living in the District. Thanks ahead!

OP, how flexible is your job? Crofton to the District can be rough. My friend was a teacher in Shaw and commuted from Crofton for 6 years. She worked 7:30-3:30 and was always in horrible traffic. I can imagine that if your hours were closer to 9-5, it would be even worse. Where in South AA co are you? Do you come up rt 4 and enter the city on Pennsylvania Ave? If so, you won't be shocked by the Crofton commute. It is really no worse.
