| Our fridge is about on its last leg and we are starting to search for a new fridge. We'd like to upgrade to a stainless steel, bottom freezer w/ ice maker fridge (possibly with a water dispenser). I've heard LG is really good and did some searches but there were complaints about how loud the ice maker was. Have you recently purchased a new fridge like the one I mentioned above? Are you happy with it? Or not and why? What brand please? TIA. |

I recently had to upgrade (our 80's fridge died suddenly) and we went with a Fisher and Paykell from Bray and Scarff, mainly because it was the only one that fit in our 1980's cabinitry space. Really limited our options! Sears and Home Depot surprisingly had nothing that would fit.
If you have any limitations on the width, height or depth of your current fridge, I'd STRONGLY recommend you check before you start shopping. Then go to homedepot.com or sears.com and start finding ones that fit your dimensions. all in all though I love the stainless, bottom freezer fridge we have now. We have a 2nd freezer in the basement for some of our Costco meat and bread though--not sure if I'd like my current small freezer if it was the only freezer I had. |
| We recently bought an LG French door-style stainless steel fridge, but it hasn't been delivered yet so I can't give any feedback on whether it's really any good. We chose not to get an in-door icemaker/water dispenser because we kept reading reviews from people who said their icemaker got jammed up, was too loud or eventually stopped working -- not just on LGs but on just about all the brands we read about. The other drawback of the in-door ice dispenser is that it really seems to cut down on storage space inside the freezer or fridge, depending on how it's configured. We also went back and forth on French door style fridge vs. side-by-side style fridge, but in the end we decided that the side-by-side approach left all of the space -- in the fridge and freezer -- feeling cramped and inefficient. I think French doors are more likely to break, though, so there's that to think about. Definitely make sure you measure your available space. Many of these fridges are deeper and taller than you think. Good luck! |
| If you want to look at LGs or other brands check out Sears. I was just there, passing through the one at Fair Oaks, and their appliance section is huge. Lots of choices. |
