Can anyone provide me with information about SACC, And how to navigate the waitlists? I tried to get information out of someone who was doing registration for SACC(called office number)
I tried to get on two wait lists for SACC since we are pretty far in number on our Base school wait list. I was told today it was not possible and that I'd have to fill out some "pupil placement" which sounded as though I would be signing my child up for elementary school at a different school that would have a SAAC spot for them. Thus meaning our child would not go to the elementary school that we are zoned for. Then the person told me that she didn't think they were even doing this anymore.... DO elementary schools bus kids from their base school to another school for the after school SAAC(if you cannot get a spot at your base school but can get a spot at a nearby school)? The answer I got today was no. Also people with 2-3 children in the same elementary. Were your younger children put on wait lists for SACC as well WITHOUT getting spots for the upcoming year? Do they really try hard to get another sibling in SACC when one already has a spot. |
| No, they don't bus for SACC. You have to sign up for SACC at your base school. The only time I've seen them bus is for a child in AAP where the AAP school doesn't have SACC, but the base school does. |

I don't really understand your situation OP.
We had a long wait list to get into SACC originally, about 18 months. My DC finally got into SACC. Then we switched to the AAP Center and switched to the SACC there. But I know of at least one kid from our base school who takes a bus from the center to our base school's SACC. I don't really know why they do that vs. transferring to the other SACC. I just put my younger child on the wait list for SACC for 2012-13. We have her on the wait list for both our base school and the center (you can be on 2 wait lists at once). But younger sibs do get priority, which is a big deal. Also, if you switch from one SACC to another, you also get priority. We benefited from that when we moved to the AAP Center SACC. |

Because my child will be in K for 2012-13 maybe I don't have all of the lingo down yet. I know our Elementary school is a GT center(does this mean it is an AAP center?).
I have no idea at this point if my child will get accepted into the GT program as it starts when they are in 2nd grade. I was under the impression that I could be on two wait lists) at two different schools for the SACC program(multiple threads state this). That if I got into a SACC program close by at a different school my child could possibly be bused there for after school care. Perhaps this is only the case if your child is excepted into a GT/AAP program and doesn't apply to Kindergarten children..... This is all new AND confusing! |
| Reading the parent handbook on the SACC site will answer some of your questions. I'm not sure why people on these threads say that you can be on two wait lists. This seems to apply only when you have a child at one school and are accepted into an AAP center at a different school. Then you can be on both wait lists. But I do not believe this is mentioned in the handbook. They do give priority to siblings who have a spot in SACC but can't guarntee anything. |
| You can absolutely be on two waitlists (but no more than two). We were when we were in process of moving and had not finalized which school kids would be at. I found the SACC staff to be very helpful in answering my numerous stupid questions. Try calling back and see if you get someone more willing to go over everything. |
| A18:46 is correct. You can be on the waitlists for 2 schools - this is for people who may be relocating to or around the area. But... they will not bus your child from one base school to another school's SACC program (unless perhaps it is an AAP situation). |

14:26 here. My younger child is currently on 2 wait lists, one for our current base school and one for the AAP center. BUT we only have her on the center list because we may move into that school's base area in the next year or so. Sorry, that was confusing!
When my child moved to the center, I had no idea that they sometimes bused kids from one school to another SACC. I just asked to transfer to SACC and the other school and they did. We were put on a priority wait list for the new school for the next year, but we got in within 2 weeks. |
| You can be on more than one SACC wait list. About 18 months ago we decided to move to get our kids into a better school pyramid, but we were looking at houses in areas that fed into two different elementary schools. We called SACC and they let us put our kids on the wait list at both schools. I believe that when your kids are actually enrolled in SACC then it needs to be at your base school or AAP center. |
