favorite recipes for company

What "fancy" recipes do you break out when you have a dinner party? I fall into the same four or five, but ought to branch out a bit....I use dinner parties as an opportunity to eat butter and whatnot so need not be all that healthy.

we usually do a beef tenderloin. Easy and special, and if we have leftovers we just eat them all week in salads or sandwiches.

This isn't necessarily fancy, but for dinner parties I sometimes make chicken and beef kabobs, with onion, red pepper, and cherry tomatoes on the skewers as well. I do a different marinade for the beef and the chicken, and they are usually a big hit. I make rice pilaf to go with it, and a really simple salad of just some greens and feta cheese and cucumbers. So it's sort of a fancy version of the kabob platter at lebanese taverna.

This is amazing. Sometimes I like to increase the sauce- I would test it once before you use for company to make sure the proportions of sauce to pasta are to your liking....

14:43 here. I pretty much just wing it. For the chicken, I combine a little olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, lime (not very middle-eastern, I guess, but it tastes good), some fig preserves (you can get them at trader joes or whole foods, they're soooo good) and salt,pepper, parsley flakes, and cumin. For the beef, I use a little olive oil, a little sesame oil (again, not very middle-eastern), apple cider vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, maybe a little soy sauce, apricot jam if I have it, and salt, pepper, parsely, maybe some red pepper flakes (my kids don't like the beef kabobs, so if our guests aren't bringing kids I'll spice them up a little more). I don't really measure anything, just do it all to taste. i like the marinade to be a good balance of sweet and spicy. Hope that helps! I'm sure you could find real marinade recipes online with measurements and such.
